Chat problem

Hello, all.

I seem to be getting a huge number of players in succession for whom "chat is unavailable." I checked my settings, and I'm chattable. I haven't received any warnings regarding abuse or unacceptable language. Is anyone else encountering this problem?

TIA.

I just came to the forums to say I am having this problem. I also have a little further weird information:

I just completed a five-game tournament, in which I chatted in every game (“gg” at the end, at least), and received this message in all five games. More importantly, in four (I think — maybe three) of those games, my opponent who was “not available for chat” chatted to me. And in three (I think — maybe two), my opponent chatted to me before I chatted to them.

Oh, and this just started today.

Actually, for me it started I think yesterday.

Sorry, I should have said that I didn’t notice it until today. I’m pretty sure I would have noticed it if it had happened, but I am not at all sure that I tried chatting at all yesterday, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I guess is for the bad use of the other users. For instance today someone insulted me without any reason, that kind of persons should be warned and if they repeat banned. And if should be interesting for the comunity see who are being banned. This is chess and that kind of behaviours don't have room on it.

@juanbcn3, maybe, but I think it’s supposed to happen when you try to send to someone who has disabled chat in their settings. In any case, the issue that saffachess and I are mentioning is that it’s happening for people who are available for chat.

So, if your opponent disables the chat, you can’t chat with them. But I am not sure if these players themselves have the ability to chat anymore when they disable their chat.

@Ein-Shachspieler, at least in the recent unprecedented spate of these, at least one of them (maybe more, but I specifically remember one) responded to me in ways that strongly implied that they read what I had written to them.

When they have chat disabled, you shouldn’t be able to write something in the chat. Maybe, your opponent enabled the chat at this momentent?

Today while playing I sent a message to my opponent to ask whether they could see my chat. I received the automated "not available to chat" message, and then from my opponent, saying that they *could* see my message. Conclusion: there's a new bug in the system.

Now I understand it better, thanks. Did you already reported it in the Beta Group?

@Ein-Schachspieler, OK, yes, hypothetically there is a theoretical possibility that this is not a bug. I concede that it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility that everything is working completely as it should.

I think it would be an extreme understatement to say that that’s an absurdly unlikely possibility, but OK.
