Feature Request: Round Robin blitz tournaments for clubs

Hi,

due to the real world situation we have to play our club tournaments online.

We want to play it in round robin system same as in real life.

It would be nice to have the option to play double round robin depending on number of participants.

E.g. double round robin for <=10 and round robin for >10.

Let me second this request, (club) tournaments in a round robin format would be a highly appreciated new feature. I'm sure they would make chess.com more attractive for clubs and club players now looking more closely at online chess. Many of these players enjoy the game but don't play competitively and aren't too familiar with the inner workings of chess.com. They would simply enjoy a tournament format that is easy to setup and understand.

I would like to raise the importance of the ticket (FM, 2385).

You could just schedule it and have the players send out challenges for the games and report the results back in the club.

Unless staff are already working towards adding, it likely won't happen very quickly, especially since they are likely more concerned with scaling things to meet overall demand, rather than new, unplanned features.

Thanks for the reply Martin. I know that we could do it by hand, but I am afraid that it would end in total chaos. Besides one guy has to keep track of the standings and announce the pairings every round.

Even a Swiss tournament could work, as long as it does not scale down the number of rounds according to the number of participants. In theory a Swiss with one round less than the number of participants should already be a round robin....

I agree with Zeitnotakrobat, a round robin would - in principle - be easy to do by hand, but in practice it could turn out to be quite difficult. All the players would have to do everything right, unlikely since not all of them are familiar with tournament systems or use of chess.com.

Unfortunately, round robin (RR) can't be played as a special case of the swiss system. RR relies on very specific pairing systems. In a swiss tournament with a high number of rounds (for the given number of players), the likely outcome is that there no longer are any legal pairings for the final rounds.

True, Swiss does not work.

I second the motion.

I totally agree: Club Live Round Robin Tournaments (1 or 2 rounds) and Club Live Swiss Tournaments with no scaling down on the number of rounds would be really appreciated. We are usually just a few players participating in a live club tournament. So, Swiss Tournament seems to short and Arena Tournaments are of a totally different type. The logic is already there (it's implemented for the Club Daily Tournaments) so it should be easy to adapt.

I understand the problem with fairness if people leave a tournament before it ends. But if it is a small group of people within a Club and the tournament is short (let's say a couple of hours for bullet and blitz) then it could be doable. It's up to the Club Administrator or Tournamente organizer to encourage that no one leaves earlier.

Hello, I do not currently have a fide rating, but was informed that i should join a “round robin” tournament on chess.com to attain one. Can someone please direct me where exactly I should find this/these tournament(s) on this site?

Thanks in advance.

You can't get a FIDE rating by playing on Chess.com

Then why does chess.com say you can on google?

I just want to hold this up. Our club wants to organize robyn tournaments. Sure, their are a few options to do that with third pary tools, but please @chess.com add this feature

Agreed. We absolutely need a round robin format for setting up live tournaments on here asap. Please get this sorted chess.com!

Hey everyone following this thread we found a nice workaround for our robin tournament.
On this website www.teamopolis.com/tools under the section "sport tools" left you can set up a round robin tournament with names, rounds etc. Its simple and free. The rest of the organization is possible via whatsapp, the chess.com club function etc.
I hope that helps happy.png
