pretty good idea on paper but i got a rework
so you have to get to a point where its win=8 loss=-8 draw 0 and above a certain elo to access game discussion forums. then we split it up for when you get a 600 elo you unlock 500-1000 elo topic forums
Also if you wanna do the off topic forujms just go there
if your rating for example is 2000, you can go to 1000-1500 to give tips.
ngl good idea and not a hot take
I think that even people with an elo of 100 have at least a non-0 amount of worth to the discussion.
Hear me out: Blacklisting people from the forum who have not played chess for less than an hour isn't a bad idea.
Why? It would stop spam.
Some people have made an idea similar to this but with elo, (e.g 500) where they say anyone lower than x elo should not be able to use the forums, arguing that people with x elo are too "stupid" to have an elo less than x, and would cause havoc for the forums. I think these people see the problem; the amount of trolls and spammers is too much. But I think elo is the wrong way of doing this.
We should use the time spent playing, and if it is less than an hour, they will not be able to access the forums, with an error message like: You need to play chess for y more minutes, and x more seconds to access the forums! This would be a great way to prevent spammers and possibly scammers, as if they have to spend a smidgen of effort more than making an account. Also, if someone plays chess casually, they will probably never reach the required elo amount. If you just play chess, and I mean that in the most liberal way possible, you will eventually have played for an hour and will get access to the forums.
Tbh I might be missing something important, or I might have the wrong idea on how to fix the spam problem, and I know that this solution is still imperfect, but will most likely 99.99% of spammers and scammers.
So, what do you think? Is this a good idea or not, and why?
