Good points. We'll look into getting this straightened out.. Thanks!
Inconsistent Puzzle Theme Names

I hate it when so many name the theme "Bishop pair" when no bishop is moved, no bishop is attacking or threatened, and bishops are totally unrelevant in the puzzle - just because there are two bishops on the board for either black or white.
I suppose it is easy to pick with little knowledge, but later it only makes things messy if somebody is trying to learn about he use of bishops by selecting a theme.

This happen with Openings lessons names like The Ruy Lopez Berlin Defense in iPad and other name on android
Agree. The bishop pair puzzles I've seen have no bishops. Sometimes in the pin puzzles I don't see the pins. Oh, the tags are crowd sourced. You can add or rate them. It often isn't satisfying to go to a puzzle because you want to practice using pins or bishop pairs, and it isn't quite what you get.

My biggest gripe about wrong themes is that it seems like someone is adding "passed pawns" to absolutely every puzzle they come across. I keep down-voting it but there's quite often no pawn movement whatsoever on most of the puzzles.

The article https://www.chess.com/article/view/the-right-tactics-for-your-rating says something about "Passed pawns are the most popular theme in the puzzle database. They are automatically detected and are common at all ratings." Maybe that means chess.com automatically tags them, which would explain your finding.

There's some automatic tagging, especially for newer puzzles, but a large portion of the tactics database was crowd sourced, and up or downvoted.
Here's a staff post about it.
Hello,
I was going through a long play session I had recently, and I wanted to use the "PERSONALIZED TRAINING" feature of the new analysis page. I made a list of recurring puzzle themes for my games, but noticed that the theme names are not consistent between the web UI and the iOS app.
For example, the web UI recommends "King in Center" for me here: https://www.chess.com/analysis/game/live/3577076308
When I click into it, this theme #31 is called "Vulnerable King": https://www.chess.com/puzzles?themes=31
In the iOS version "King in Center" is not visible, but "Vulnerable King" is.
Here are examples (not exhaustive) of themes that are in the web UI but not in iOS:
- King in Center
- Relative Pin
- Absolute Pin
- Connected Passed Pawn
- Outside Passed Pawn
Can these theme names be made consistent? This would make it easier to study puzzles on the go.
Thanks!
