Making the 'turn board sides' feature more visible would be nice please

Hi everyone!

I recently discovered when playing daily, you can change the sides to see the position from your opponent point of view. I think it's a great feature when analyzing the position because you can find what your opponent plan is more easily, and what he is threatening.

However, why is it only doable in the 'opening' tab when playing daily, and not the other ones, like 'move' for example? I think it would be nice to have this feature more visible because I think it's a pretty good one.

Have a great day everyone!

You can also set the position on a real board, turn it all angles you want, move the pieces in order to analyze and try find the best move.

It's available in the Move tab on Daily but the FLIP BOARD exists in a few different places ... below left beside other buttons or in the right side of board itself at the top. It's the reverse arrows and it is on Move tab!

ADDED: But I'm not sure that holds true for all devices, browsers etc. It's true on Chrome on MacBook Air.

I see your point, nothing beats a real board if you're used to use one.

Though, what if I don't have a real board? Then I could go on any chess website and play the game from the opposite side. It would just be far more annoying. I just think it would be more ergonomic to have it directly implemented in the website.

That is true! But many aren't set up to handle a real board. Cases in point:

  1. Skydiving (yeah a guy actually played chess on his way down).
  2. On a sail boat. Power boats it's possible; sail boat, no freaking way!!
  3. Riding a brahma bull at the rodeo (no, I have no proof it can be done, it's a WAG)
  4. Someone is in bed. The pieces fly everywhere. Yep, they could get magnetic board but who wants that when you can play online?

There is also the issue of setting up the board. I swear, it seems so slow and messy and the pieces want to roll off onto the floor. And then your dog grabs it and you chase it for an hour and you OP goes home instead because he has a bad cold and he had touched the pieces you are now putting away so you've caught his cold.

OTB isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Yeah I think you're right. I'm on mobile (Android) on Ecosia and it seems like it's does not appear in move tab

Well, Correspondence chess players do that, and then, if you don't have got a chess board & set, what are you waiting for? Buy one! Size 5; dark squares green, rollable.

Okay, sorry. One last thing. Did you look on the board? It's a tiny button in the border of the board itself and it is hidden. It only displays if you hover right side of board at the top. This may not exist on mobile at all but I thought we should give it one last try.

I've never tried to play chess on mobile. Apologies if my posts disrupted the flow - I just want the tool available for you because it is indeed very powerful (I did a topic on it in fact). Many people miss the group of buttons (on Chrome) because they don't show unless you hover and it's not a normal place one would expect buttons so they miss it!

It's OK. Anyways, I already know where it is for me and I'm sure I could find a real board if I search deeply in the back of my closet. I just wanted to make it more visible for mobile because I know a lot of people playing daily on mobile, without a chess board and having ni idea that this feature existed.

I guess you're right, but there still some difference :

P.S.: And so no @isolani-d4, there's nothing on the side of my board unfortunately. Or at least it doesn't show for me.

Yep, gonna try that

Thanks everyone for your answers! Again, I know where the feature is and it is just one more click away, and I now always use it all the time. I am not complaining about the feature in itself, but more about how you can access to it (at least on mobile). And even if there are some other options to do it, IF I HAVE NOT FOUND IT, IT MEANS IT IS INVISIBLE.

It’s doable in any position, on any time control (i think). On the app, just hold down one finger and swipe another finger.
I think the site should have a button for that too, but idk where.
