If you friend someone, I think you should be able to dm with them, even if they are muted. After all, if you don’t want to talk to them you can just unfriend, but if you do then you can’t. I know that if they’re muted they probably said something they shouldn’t have, but if you’re talking in private anyways, and you WANT to talk to them, you should be able to see DMs. If this is a bad idea pls explain why
For clarity, are you saying that if you're muted, you should be able to private message people?

So like, if you got muted rn you could still dm me but you couldn’t dm, idk, atti (i don’t think you friended him)
Well, I guess it’s kind of fair to be able to talk to friends when you’re muted. But also keep in mind that being muted should be a punishment to teach you not to break the rules as well.
I think the current system is fine. You can still talk to friends in club chats if needed.

There are many reasons why someone can be muted... just check out the community policy.
Mutes are temporary and a way to help prevent further harm to other users of the site. There may be somethings you don't know about the person you are friended with (and if you're good enough friends you probably have the ability to chat outside of chess.com anyways).
It's a safety feature so I don't expect the behaviour to change, but you can always submit a feature request. You never know.

Would work if creating a new account was not that easy. Some players keep swearing in chats of tournaments and create a new account in several minutes after they get muted

I think that most people agree that chess.com should make it more difficult to not be able to make new accounts to easily. That’s how the same trolls and people who break the rules keep skating by.
