I think it’s actually a pretty decent update! Why do you think so?

i had to get advice on how to get rid of the stupid oversized boxes at the top, but the page still takes considerable time in loading the frame where they used to be...

text on my wall notes is way too big too, almost twice the size as text in other places

mbereobong

Oh yeah, I think they need to fix it that too.

mbereobong

My favorite thing about it is how much you can customize, unlike before.

At the moment you can go to settings/all settings/home and opt out:

But as it says, the decent design will soon be phased out and replaced with the clunky, ugly one.

It's a sop to the kiddies, the young subscribers who are attracted by, and derive comfort from large, bright, colorful objects (icons)....

It's part of the steep downhill ride the designers have been on for the past year or two. To me every upgrade has been an aesthetic and/or an implemental downgrade ever since the forced sidebar menu.

The designers are apparently getting younger too.  Some day infants will be designing websites (with the aid of infant-designed AI)....

the problems started with v3, which is now 6 years old. seems to me little has been learned in all that time...

Awful! Can't stay logged in, free trial nag every time I login.

DiogenesDue

The free trial popup increase is indeed unwelcome.

For the page layout, it would be much better if you could move a widget from left to right side and vice versa...right now I have way more stuff on the narrower right side, which extends down long after the left side content is exhausted wink.png.

The ability to put higher priority widgets where you want it is laudable, though.

2019, still missing V2

Change is usually for the worse.  Most of us just get used to whatever setup is there and get on with playing chess.  Then, from time to time someone feels the need to go redesign it to some 'better' layout which is usually far worse.

I wouldn't mind if the default that you get with this new setup would be exactly what I had before, so that I can actively decide to explore the new layouts if I want to or I can just keep my status quo.  But no...apparently chesskid is constantly invading chess.com.  Adults don't need all these gimmicks.

I usually click on my current Daily games from the middle of my Home page.  NOW that click takes me to the Match Page showing all the pairings.  Progress confuses me and makes my head hurtcry.png

anpu3

Silly me.  I just have to click on the Move icon on that line and voila!  Can you say, Intuitive?

ericthatwho

Well it does allow me to cut off chesstv other then that did the developers get paid

Does this new design also include Chess.com dropping its main page? If so it's a lousy decision as the main page added a lot to the appeal of the site. Chess.com, bring it back!

This main page has been moved to Chess Today. Click on Today in the navigation. We will soon be adding an option to make Chess Today your landing page if this is where you prefer to land when you visit Chess.com. This will also include and option to land directly on Live if you want to bypass both Home and Chess Today and get right to playing.
