For example, after I move in a game I want to return to the page with all my active and finished games. I don’t want to be taken to the next game by time remaining. I want to be able to choose the game I play next.

The necessity here was in regard to the change from landing on the Index page, where all of our content lived, to no longer landing on the Index page. Our Index page has changed completely to be less focused on content and more focused on playing, so new visitors get a better idea of what they can do on Chess.com. If you view chess.com from an incognito window, you'll see that you would not want to land on that page every day.
We created the Chess Today page as the new home for fresh content, and you will soon be able to make that your default landing page if that is what you prefer.
As far as Home is concerned, it is true that some of the changes here were not necessary. We did need to update the code on the page, and took advantage of needing to recode the page to implement a feature that had been asked for thousands of times: customization. We had hoped that making Home customizable would be something everyone enjoyed, because if there is something you don't like, you can change it.
When you have millions of players logging in every day, it is hard to nail it for everyone. But we really care about how everyone feels about this. Especially you, @batgirl. You are awesome, and we are so happy you are a part of this community.
I know that style is a big deal for you. It is for us as well. We are constantly trying to find how we can balance making chess more fun and accessible for everyone but still treat chess with the serious respect it deserves. We do hope to avoid being juvenile in these efforts, regardless of how design trends lean more juvenile outside of Chess.com. We strive to learn as much as we can from Beta testing, but that does not always represent the full spectrum of views and tastes across the site.
Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts and reactions here. We care. We're listening. We're adjusting.
We just want to play chess-chess.com just wants to maximize profit. The home page is not the big problem make the chess playing better better playing screen.
chess.com did one thing right it now allows me to deride who can see and post to my notes. This and making it so non-paid member can not post in forums would help increase paid membership and make it easier to moderate. Just a suggestion but not the only one.
Did anyone ask for these changes? Surely not a majority of members.
Why can't things like the main page be left alone? We could be asked periodically if we want something changed or not.
I admit that I am easy to confuse. When I read that "necessity" required no longer "landing on the Index page", then I feel like I'm being told (by programmers[the priestly elite of the 21st century]) to calm down and enjoy the 'bells & whistles' to play with.
Funny thing is... when we were told V3 was the 'bee's knees' (to borrow a phrase); landing on the Index page (etc.) was the result. Dare I draw the conclusion that this means V3 was doomed to failure? Poor, poor V3... who will mourn thee?
I started playing chess online in 1996... 23 years ago. The very first playing site I found was called Chessmaster and, indeed, was operated by Software Toolworks who gave us that chess program.. To fully appreciate this, one must understand I was using a computer with a 486sx processor, 20 Mg of storage and 2 Mg ram. (these are megabytes, not gigabytes) and I connected to the internet at 9600 Baud Rate (max-it was usually a lot less) via AOL using a dedicated phone line. Once I was connected to the www, I could access the site. However, it took about 4 minutes for it to load. Once it loaded, it was all worth it. The layout mimicked the chess program in appearance. Just like this screegrab:
Each of the windows on the page could be opened, closed or resized. They could be dragged and repositioned, even overlapped. There were other windows such as search. (Note the game score is in descriptive - one could choose between algebraic, descriptive each long or short -- Chessmaster used a proprietary notation system) when you logged out and logged back in, everything would be right where you left it. Anyway, all this was done in the nascent era of the www with primitive digital equipment and snail-paced connections. This was true customization with a gorgeous interface and yes the board and pieces were customizable (I'm not even sure java was a thing yet. I remember reading about it's inception but I'm not sure when that was).
On my home page when I look at my correspondence games in grid view there is no space between the boards anymore, they all sit against each other making it hard to see where one board ends and another begins. Is there any way to put a space between them again?
Does anyone know how to get rid of the 4 big boxes? Thanks.

I want to add that @dallin has a valid point. Design, like art, is individual. What one person loves another might hate. This doesn't mean I like it any more because I don't, but I can and do appreciate the effort that went into all this. One can get rid of the clunky boxes altogether and use the side menu with only a fraction more effort than the old version required... so functionality isn't a real issue and the loss of aesthetics, if one sees it as such, can be minimalized. It's all bad.
The Today landing screen seems to lean heavily on Chess TV - something which like Twitch (whatever that is) or live commentators has zero interest to me - in fact I find that whole area rather annoying. If I could have just one customization option, it would be to eliminate all those links on my page. But to each her own. I hope the majority of members do like these changes.

...although you will still be left with the frame trying to load, despite there no longer being boxes there to load...
Does this new design also include Chess.com dropping its main page? If so it's a lousy decision as the main page added a lot to the appeal of the site. Chess.com, bring it back!
This main page has been moved to Chess Today. Click on Today in the navigation. We will soon be adding an option to make Chess Today your landing page if this is where you prefer to land when you visit Chess.com. This will also include and option to land directly on Live if you want to bypass both Home and Chess Today and get right to playing.
Thanks.

@gambit-man we have not had any bug reports submitted for this issue. Could you please submit a bug report so we can see what is going on and fix it? Thanks!
When I saw home settings, my response is wooww, Cc give their user the opportunity to pick their own style. N This is good for me.
Yeah, goin through changes is hard for some, even Ozzy Osbourne created a song about that
We all have good memories in the past, but changes is a somethin we can`t stop ... Keek

erm, no... sick to the back teeth with submitting bug reports. can't you test things before inflicting them on the membership?
Dallin, please tell me how to customize the home page as I can’t make any changes. I am using Safari.
Thanks
