Note about full screen ads on iOS

Remember: On iOS it is faster to close the app and open it when one of the obnoxious full screen ads starts playing. Bonus, you’re not subjected to something you don’t even want to see in the first place. So, when no one buys or subscribes whatever the ads are trying to promote, maybe they’ll get rid of them.

I don’t think the advertisers know how many of their customers came from people on chess.com clicking on an ad.

It’s understandable to not want to, or not be able to, pay for a membership. But if you have a free account then you have no business complaining about ads.

No business? Of course I do. We all do. If chess.com doesn’t want people talking about ads, they can mute or lock the threads. They claim to want feedback, and so they will continue to get feedback—even negative. As a company they are valued at over a billion dollars and the owners are worth 50+ million dollars. There is a way to deliver ads without interfering with game play by delivering ads between games or transparently. This used to be the approach, and everyone was fine with it. Once they started forcing full screen ads that interfere with game play, people vocalized frustration and I think that is completely fair.

You have a free account. End of discussion.

End of discussion for you maybe.

You want something for free and you want input on how it should be run. Chess.com is a private business that has a right to function as it sees fit—-regardless of whether that lines up with your entitled sensibilities. This is not akin to voting for a politician in the public sector—-where you have rights that don’t involve a fee. If you’re driving a free car, are you going to complain about the paint job? You choose to be here and you choose to have a free account—-nothing is mandated on you.

Could you stop?
The OP isn't complaining about all ads, he's complaining about full screen ones, and you somehow seem to be mistaking his feedback, which he has rightfully posted in the 'Site Feedback' section as a forced demand. Calm down. You have membership, good for you, the world doesn't revolve around you and if others are facing issues then they have the right to post it here, whether chess.com takes action or not is the company's job, not yours. There's a huge difference between demanding everything for free and complaining about a specific ad implementation. Stop white-knighting for a company that doesn't know you exist.
And again this has been posted in 'Site Feedback' , the place meant for complaints and feedback, and you're telling the guy he has no business doing exactly what this sub forum was made for, peace out, man.

@ c9n

Don't patronize me.

"Calm down." Wrong assumption - I am calm.

"the world doesn't revolve around you"...Wouldn't it make more sense to say this to the people with free accounts?

"Stop white-knighting for a company that doesn't know you exist." Wrong again. I pay for a membership, therefore, they know I exist.

What I have written makes perfect sense. And it's funny you telling me to calm down while the tone of your post is far less calm than anything I've written.

Congratulations, you're one of the many innumerable members who pay, a truly unique feat.
And you entirely skipped my main point, why are you constantly bickering with a guy who put feedback in a sub-forum clearly meant for it?
By using phrases such as 'you have no business complaining ' and 'end of discussion', you sound rather elitist and patronizing. This is the feedback section. If it's a valid complaint then everyone absolutely has the right to complain.

Pretty sure saying end of discussion in a thread you didn't start is much more patronizing :/

I don’t have a membership, but I never see full screen ads. The only ads are on the sidebars where I hardly notice, and even them rarely appear. Usually there are no ads at all.

Also, half of the already small number of ads are about chess.com features.

Same, I don't get really get full screen ads either but yeah the OP is saying it happens specifically for iOS so it probably does.

I don’t know what is wrong with @Nick-VG ‘s app,but I don’t have 10% of his problems. I use WeChat to open this website, so probably it’s WeChat’s own anti-ad measures? I can’t be sure.
