They greyd out the Russian flag so it would stop harassment towards our Russian comrades, they understand why completely why it is happening and have no issue with it. I am all for protecting our Russian players this way. However I'm not sure how to explain fully why without this becoming a flagged political topic.
Politicising Flags
If that was the reason it certainly didn’t work, everyone knew the greyed out flag was Russian!
Additionally, most assumed it was done in response to the invasion of Ukraine. For whatever reason don’t use the flags in response to countries actions. Stay out of it Chess.com. Given that logic, it does not explain why the US flag has not been greyed out.
So why do it ever.
That decision has now blown up in their face, the US like Russia decided to invade another country, yet the US flag has not been greyed out. But Chess.com is still insistent politics is no part of chess. If this is the case don’t politicise the site by using flags reflecting the sites political tendencies. And don’t expect international members not to speak out on that decision, it is hypocritical.
Chess.com should not grey out flags if they claim the site is not political.
I do not believe the invasion of any country is right for political gain and neither is picking and choosing which countries flags should not be shown on an international site.
