"that is not allowed. please try again".

this is a message i received when i tried to post something.

in a private group.

nothing illegal, mind you. just a curse word.

for the last 15+ years here, it was the admins of groups that decided what was out of bounds. why has this changed?

i have purposely left so-called private groups here in the past when there was too much and/or selective moderation. i rarely bother with these kiddie forums for the same reason. someone please explain this. hopefully it is (yet another) bug.

It is not a bug. You have to follow site rules in private groups.

↑ rules are different for groups. or, they were.

i need a mod or staff to answer this as the faq has no info. about club rules.

#3 "were", you are right. Any post made on the website has filters. And you can't access private groups on the website.

Dear Mr. Czervik,

We would like to apologize for any negative or unsatisfactory conditions you have experienced while blissfully navigating our site.

However, it has come our attention that some members of our community are greatly affected by certain words and phrases. Even when those words and phrases are used without malice.

Therefore we had to take drastic measures to ensure the mental and emotional safety of the community.

That being said, we feel like the overall Chess.com community would feel safer and more secure in their mental well-being if we were to restrict the use of language in private clubs.

Don't worry, we know what's best for you.

Sincerely,

I think that would be closer to parody than sarcasm.

Either way, censorship can be a slippery slope.

Who can you trust now a days?

Adults are being restricted in private clubs but useless spammers like this have free reign in the general forums?

Good lord, this is likely the most extreme example of spam on the forums that I have seen in a screenshot. I believe that this was taken in the Off Topic Forums, correct?
