As sawdof said, cc is far too stuck in the past for it to happen any time soon. Maybe one day, but right now they're content making 100 million a year with just minor server costs, prize providing for tournaments, and paying some of their staff. They don't seem like they are the type to mess with something that's working.

It's a $100+ million dollar company now...time to flex your muscle with your advertising networks.

You should not get a full page ad. If you do you can report it.

I'm aware of the link, but thank you. What I am saying is that Chess.com has reached a size where they can actually do something about this preemptively.

The "chess.com user experience team" (there is one, surely by now at the reported 700 employees? Maybe sitting near the Community Manager's office...how is she doing? Been so long since we heard from her...) should be calling ad affiliate networks and telling them "we're seeing this, this, and this...fix it on your end so our customers don't have to see it/respond to it, or we'll be moving on to another affiliate".

RonaldJosephCote

Martin, could that be the ad that THIS guy from Australia is complaining about? https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/redirecting-to-https-hoproutepoint-cc

Chess.com sucks and more after the new version..... Too many ppl playing like Kasparov with 700 points, the clock doesn't work properly. [removed -- MS]

It's almost like the forums would benefit from a group of regular members that are online a lot that can interact with the mods (and staff when it's a blue moon) and give them a heads up or something.

Oh wait, they had that and let it starve off to nothing.

Well, how about this? When there's a spike in the rate of reports, it pages the mods sitting on Discord...

Or maybe it should page Richard directly until this measure he has in development is in place and working?

Just some thoughts.

Seriously, though, the technology is easy, there's no reason whatsoever that the forums should be spammed with images for more than 5 minutes tops.

RonaldJosephCote

I'm not so sure about that. surprise Normally I completely ignore him but I started reading some of his post. He's an angry ex-employee of Chess.com. shock

Well they've had a month plus. Richard sees IB posting pics about Martin supposedly with his Richard in his hands *sorry, that "pun" was almost certainly in bad taste but the circumstances almost merit it* and let's hope some serious action gets taken.

More likely though, this thread will just be locked.

Wouldn't take his word for it.

RonaldJosephCote

We could play "Criminal Minds". tongue Maybe Martin was the one who got him fired. surprise https://www.chesstech.org/2024/downsizing-on-staff-and/

sawdof

Ok they've removed IB a few minutes back

Hiding images by default is already implemented in DMs for anyone that is not on your friends list.

How difficult would it be to apply that to the general forums?

RonaldJosephCote

The article he's referencing was published 6 months ago. I think a lot of complaints about the site came out about 6 months ago too. A lot of them are the same things Al Czervik's been complaining about for yrs.

BasixWhiteBoy

IB is ironically sticking around far longer than a month ago when Richard released the statement saying action would be taken. He sticks around for over an hour most days on just one account.

The layoffs are real enough. The problem is that "rightsizing" is supposed to mean that you have extra capacity, but quite clearly chess.com does not, and is still using a volunteer mod system and can not even spare an hour or two a day from 1 community manager type and 1 developer to stay on top of forum issues. This way of handling things does not scale. You can have 20, 50, 100 volunteer mods and you will still lack coverage times because they get to choose when to moderate.

It's really not that hard to detect either a user (any user new or old) that is posting serially on one thread after another, or to detect the resulting spike in the rate of reports.

I can relate to being a railroaded soldier. I use to report IB to Staff quite a bit. After my stupid little 1 day mute yesterday, I think I'm gonna hold off in the future.surprise

The information is real but that this person worked for cc is another thing altogether.

Most of us have fallen prey to friendly fire as well. Some stop caring. Some quit.
