Why isn't there a afk mode for games.

Running out of battery on your phone, or having to close your computer while running to the other room for a charger, should not result in a loss. There needs to be some sort of button where you can have say 2 minutes to do whatever you need to do, and after that time runs out the game is considered abandoned. In a way this already exists for daily games as vacations.

Also I'm not exactly sure what to put this forum in as a category because it could fall under several, so I'm just gonna wait till someone tells me.

Wdym? If you mean I'm only posting this because of my experiences, then, while that is partially true, it's not the entire reason. I have had really good games going where similar things happen for my opponent.

That would be abused, a lot

You have time, but how much depends on the time control, where in the game you are, and the evaluation when you disconnect.

The abuse part is a valid argument, but what could they really do by abusing it? I doubt it would give them a large advantage having a few minutes to sit back. Regardless, it works the same way for the opponent. If they are wise, they will use the time to sit back and study the board. As for the time control argument, I doubt you go into a game expecting to get interrupted by something.

Along with that time control argument, why not have the afk person's clock tick down while they are gone to prevent abuse? The only difference is they wouldn't be disconnected and counted as resigning. It does make sitting at the desk boring for their opponent, but again, if said opponent is wise, they will just study the board during that time.

I must admit though that you have a valid argument.

Many people in a losing position would just make use of the feature

Ye, this is what I imagined above

I don't think it should be that way, @Abirdwithinternetyt. Trying to create new measures to only solve a personal inconvenience wouldn't be that great. You're probably a fair minded player who just wants to get a charger but like Martin said it'd be heavily abused by stallers and many other players. Many people in a losing position would just make use of the feature to spite their opponent hoping that their opponent will get bored and resign.
And saying that the opponent should just 'be wise' and 'study the board' makes no sense either, because if I am starting a 3 minute blitz game, it means I have 3 minutes to commit to a game, why should I have to wait two extra minutes because my opponent forgot to charge their device, that's basically making your opponent wait because of your own lack of preparation.
And again, the article linked by Martin already mentions that chess.com already has a disconnection grace period so yeah. Running out of battery really isn't a valid reason, before starting a game one must ensure they have sufficient time to commit to the game and are prepared beforehand.
So yeah lol expecting a 'vacation time' for live games lowkey takes the 'live' part of the game away

These are some fair points, though this wasn't meant to address a "personal inconvenience", as much as it was meant more to discuss why you believe this feature should or shouldn't be added. The one part that was based off of personal experience was looking at the board while my opponent is stalling or is afk.
