Surprises have my vote.
Achievement Transparency

Either way works. Initially you could tell how to get them, during the beta, so I was able to try a few that way.

How about a mix? Let the majority be open, and a few hidden ones?
Agreed. Make a couple hard ones hidden (have a subtle hint in the name?) but make easier ones open.

Some are already pretty obvious, though a mix might be good.
The thing I would like is to limit the achievements to only show one time on loading home, or just show in the alerts area. I've had a few times where I had a few pop up, one right after another.

These are really irritating, I am being bombarded with them all day, they are accompanied by loud noises. I have turned off notifications for Trophies but am still receiving them, can someone please tell me how to shut them off.

This is really irritating. How do we disable seeing the achievement alerts?
Earn all of the
I suggested that in another topic about them before. Including them with the other alert settings or adding a new one would be nice, for some people.

This crap is as bad as some of Facebook's gimmicks that can't be shut off. People shouldn't have to take off their headphones before they tap the chess.com tab on their browser just in case some stupid kiddie award blasts in their ears.

I sent in a support ticket thinking someone hacked my account. Tell Staff to disregard the ticket now that I know its a site thing, my bad. For suggestions.......how about a ladder of congratulations every time a member reaches ratings.....1400,.....1500.....1600......1700.....1800...etc.

Its the continued dumbing down of 'murica. Everyone seems to need instant gratification, and constantly rewarded for everything.

Just got a 7 day logon achievement. I thought the kids were messing with my phone. Do I get customized clothing for my avatar too?
Many of you may have noticed that we have a new feature on the site called Achievements. You earn them by meeting certain thresholds on the site or doing something awesome like mating with a smothered mate.
One debate we are continuing to have on the Achievements team is how transparent we should be on how these achievements are earned. On one side, we think that discovering how an achievement is earned is part of the fun. On the other side, we think that knowing exactly how an achievement is earned makes them more fun to work for.
What do you think?
