Analysis Board

This site is the best chess site on the net for correspondence chess, however I feel that the analysis board funtion could be improved tremendously by adding these featues.

1. The ability to spawn an analysis board off any diagram.

2. The ability to analyse more then one line without losing the original line.

3. The ability, perhaps just for premium members, to be able to save multiple lines, with comments with each game (there is an analysis board and editor, but I was hoping that a board similar could be saved with each game)

4. To improve the analysis board in the game explorer. If you click the analysis board button when looking at a game in the game explorer, the analysis board you get does nnot have a move list.

Thankyou chess.com for such a great site, and I hope these ideas can be implememted.

Would anyone else support this feature?

I surely do, but I don't think the staff care any longer. They seldom comment on anything in this forum.

Perhaps if we can get enough support it will be implemented.

I am really suprised about the response, I though that there would be loads of people who supported this.

I am not surprised at all as since Nov 25, 2009 Erik has decided, and only he can decide on implementations on this site, that every suggestion will now have its own thread or forum.

Ref:

There is currently 8 pages of one item suggestion topics, and a number of them are about the same topic, at 20 per pages this is 160 new threads in 23 days or close to 7 a day in a year from now at this rate there will be about 2500 different threads spread over 127 pages.

Who in the world will read these many threads, no one, people will post a new thread on a subject already discussed maybe 10 times, but none are connected with a common denominator.

And the task at large for anyone who wants to summarize the threads becomes huge.

I have suggested opening new threads with a number of pre-selected categories, such as: analysis board, tournaments, interface improvements, drop down menus, game challenge settings, new comers, member's benefits, live chess, online chess, mobile phone, new features, etc...

This would reduce the threads by a factor of about 10 and in a year from now there would be perhaps only 25 threads or so, allowing anyone to browse thru one page and a bit, of the threads and contribute as they see fit.

Naturally thread topics could be added as new elements are added to the site.

Last a general category can be added for the topics not covered in the list. It is always time to change suggestion threads and go the grouping way by topics.

There was as well a testing period for the analysis board, Erik sent us all a personal message I think and perhaps this is where people have been posting rather than on your thread, I have not been able to locate it.

This is a bit of a rant. I find it distracts and detracts from the good, relevant points you make afterwards.

And now my comment: you do have very good suggestions, however I would recommend that all of your suggestions apply to everyone, not only premium members, those who pay for a membership and I am one yes.

I would rather suggest a ladder type approach for members, non members can save say 10 lines with comments for each game and premium members get more and more depending on their membership level.

Sounds like a good idea.

I would add the ability to select the thinking time or the number of seconds or minutes up to a maximum of say 10 minutes for more in-depth analysis.

A thinking time restriction is surely counter to the principles of Correspondence Chess - where you have as long to think as you like - within the N-days-per-move limits.
