Being able to use a DGT Board

Sort:
BORGamundo

i've used it on icc which supports it .

@ramonleon1948: AciApeChess does. It is wonderful. DGTeBoard connects with Android phone or Tablet to play on FICS, Lichess or ICC.

have any of you people read the last few pages of this thread?  A guy wrote a program to make the dgt board work with chess.com.  The website isn't up at the moment but I dloaded it when it was available and I have it on my computer!

@fewlio: Have you read ramonleon1948 post?

I am ready to buy an electronic chess board as soon as chess.com or another chess site starts supporting it.

If ramaleon was reading he'd know it was already in existence before you replied...that was my point.  I'm sure lots of thread readers would be interested in the android app you found as well.

btw: ChessGuard 0.8 does not work stable.

Piratin13

For me ChessGuard 0.8 stopped working, better solution is Acid Ape Chess to play on Lichess.

It is totally a shame for chess.com

Ruskie_it

I would like to use DGT chessboard here. That would make me use this site as my primarily chess server (currently it is another where I can play over my dgt board). At least if this ChessGuard was made available again I would give it a try.

superchessmachine

noice. Now to get a DGT Board

fewlio

send me a msg if you want chessguard to try

Ruskie_it

fewlio has sent a copy of chessguard v0.8 to me today.

You can download it at: https://goo.gl/Mfmfj6

I just tried it and it works, except I get no announcements at all on my DGT3000. Maybe @IcemanRocks would want to have a look, but I doubt it...

Please try to mark the checkbox Move Analysis for announcements on the clock.

I did. There's a video by Icemanrocks which shows it running on a DGT and I set it up like in the video. Also, I followed all the instructions he gave in the whole thread before posting, including the advice to mark that checkbox, but it does not announce anything (neither on the clock, nor via audio); the clock is set on mode 25 (computer mode) but it just shows --:-- --:--

Acid Ape just in August stated on twitter they're not supporting DGT boards anymore (acting a little childish, I must say, ranting that DGT is not willing to pay anything and then that they produce expensive things, it's not ethic and all of a sudden they won't be part of this... quite childish I must say).
Anyway, usb boards were not working and now I think never will. Don't know what will be of the USB onese.

But did you also check the settings of the Rabbit driver? There are some checkboxes about sounds, voice, etc.  I assume you verified that too.

In my configuration it worked (Windows 10, DGT Bluetooth e-board, DGT 3000 clock). But I stopped using it, mainly because of Windows problems not related to DGT.

I also wrote a note to DGT asking them why they did not invest in support for chess.com and lichess.org. But I didn't even got a reply from them.

I like the DGT hardware very much: the e-board, the pieces, the clocks and even the DGT Pi. But I cannot understand their low level of support, software updates and marketing.

Yep, of course I did! happy.png

I have a USB board, though, not bluetooth. If I had, I would have been playing using Acide Ape over lichess. Unfortunately, USB boards do not run with Acid Ape, in July they told me on twitter that support would have been added this summer, but in August they changed their mind and removed support for DGT products completely (I guess bluetooth eboards will still work though).

Maybe when I'll have time I will test how it works with "proper games"; anyway I suspect that there is something SFU in the DGT usb driver - and that is also the reason why Acid Ape Chess decided to drop support for DGT products.

I agree with you regarding DGT. If you see their offices on Google Maps you'll notice they're not such a big company despite the brand value in chess world... It's hard to believe they are so big that they are allowed not to care about their customers at all.

It is a small company. According to this website DGT has 10 to 19 employees and a turnover between 0.5 and 1 M€ (2014). I think their main business is selling the clocks.

Exactly. Their brand is very much recognized in chess world and this is why they look a big company, but they aren't.

That's why I would expect from them more care for their customers and more openness to partnerships.

fewlio

in their favor, they had one recent development which was nice to see.  A cheaper version of their board for poorer nations and budget conscious customers everywhere.  Still costs plenty but it is definitely cheaper!
