Cannot pause if my turn in any game?

I wanted to take a short break from chess for Chinese New Year, which is the most important festival in my part of the world. However, I could not.

  • To prevent abuse, you can only leave on vacation when it is NOT your move in any game.

This rule is ridiculous. If someone needs to take vacation leave, obviously they do not have the time to make all the necessary moves. To force them to make moves will increase risk of blunders and worsen their real-life situation. From experience, many opponents respond to moves near instantly, so it may be impossible to meet this condition.

It looks like most of your games are very long time per move anyway. How long does the festival go on?

You have only one move to make now with 21 hours left. The next shortest one is 5 days.

If that's a problem, it must be one hell of a party.

/I find it hard to believe that you could not make that one move and then go on vacation before your opponent could reply.

Yes, I could afford to take some time away from celebrations to make that move. My concern is that other players could face other situations (like illness or family problems) where it is not possible to make all moves so they can take vacation leave. Most players choose shorter time controls and some play so many games that it is impossible to be not their turn in any, because some opponents respond to moves near instantly.

Good points Springyboard, but I think the reason chess.com makes it a pain to go on vacation is to differentiate between paying customers (we go on vacation automatically when in time trouble) and free members.  One more incentive to upgrade...
