Change in news functionality

I believe this new system is a step back and don't understand why chesscom would implement this. They would do better if they got rid of dead accounts and groups to free up servers, if indeed that is the reason. I also agree with Ione that keeping it this way is too difficult for admins to run groups and maybe chesscom will become a site for live chess only?

The truth is tht v3 is fucked.

Erik believes tht giving more people 'staff icons' will solve the problem.

Erik, 99% of ur fu*ckig members are happy with v2.

Maybe it's the thought of $$$$

galacticknight

What if there are other sites tht dont need $$$$

Money are important, no doubt for this one... but, while you already got the best systems why still keep looking around the grasses are greener? I think the best systems was in 2011-2013. I hopes you don't forget we are also your property, no doubt per se.

REMEMBER without the fans, Chess.com are NOTHING!

All, please stay on topic. There are other forums where you can discuss v3 or report glitches or gaps for some. This forum is just about the changes to the news functionality and what should get done about it and the urgency of a fix.

So far, we have the following recommendations to chess.com and any one of these options could be a great remedy:

1) Temporary, roll back to old functionality for V2 and leave V3 as is
2) Make group name and "view" deep link into actual news item
3) Exclude news (and new vote chess alerts) from "ignore all"
4) Other options to allow admin to send messages to multiple members (using, say, acomma delimited list) like for group invites and tournaments

We do not think it is a good idea to leave news functionality is current (broken) state until V3 is rolled out which could well be 6-12 months in the future.

See post #263, #252, #235, #223 for more details

Sure, sounds good, but who in Chess.com is listening to this forum topic? I lost the bubble on whether they are aware of this issue...

It may ultimatively be up to Eric to prioritise a small immediate fix/improvement to news... vis-a-vis ongoing efforts to complete V3?

Bonjour,

Is it possible to be personally informed (by email or message) when there is something new on the site?
Have a good day.

What worries me even more is the fact that this is happening in v3 as well. The fact that they updated this in both versions of the site makes it look like a permanent change.

If they fix it in v3 all that will happen is that every administrator will start using v3. Hopefully that is what will happen.

No - everyone would still use v2 as Inviting people from v3 is a "club invite" and v2 users would get weird invite messages :/

Why would anyone who isn't cheating or otherwise violating site policies get banned, Harish?

Agree.

VirtualKnightJoakim

Can we wait 6-12 month for a fix for news?

RuneTonseth

No!! We cannot. Groups are already dying

ijgeoffrey

I agree. Groups are dying and news reform is necessary ASAP to fix it.

VirtualKnightJoakim

I used to use news for many purposes:

-  team match reminders

-  vote chess reminders

-  announcement of new forums

-  change to group policy

-  surveys and other fun group activities

-  etc

Now, it seems as no point as no one (0.4% to be precise) get to see the news
