Change in news functionality

in v3 I see improvements, I never expected them to roll it back to the old way...I see alerts with titles now, vote chess (some of them are falling into this subtitle but not all) club/group notes, comments (some of my vote chess games with comments are posted here)  matches, and games listed, over all  much better!

I did not notice any changes for V2. Are improvements for V3 only?

I guess so, Joakim. Actually, not sure if they are going to change v2, they are concentrating on making v3 excellent. At some point in the future (not sure when), v2 is not suppose to exist any longer. At least that is what we were told.

Aw man. I had my heart set on V2. lol

Problem will be if switch to V3 will take another 6+ months. That will negativly affect participation and activity in groups a lot. As I have said, some groups, like team "MONIKA" have stopped participating in open matches (except for TMCL) as news can no longer be used as match reminders (because no one sees them). In addition, other activities are on hold until news get fixed.

Not everyone has time to PM 200-800 members for each match/activity??

Changes appears small, could they not be done for V2?

I read every news alert I get and am sure you do the same - it's really not difficult.  The group members who don't are either less active chess.com members or in too many clubs in which case sending it via a message won't make much difference.

If the real problem is getting signups for matches, shouldn't we be arguing for a better alert for that, instead?

They could even consider scrapping the automated CHESScom message system altogether, and have everything done by alerts.

With all due respect, first post shows by stastistics that news read dropped drastically after change April. I suspect, too many click "ignore all" before the many click into a news... or maybe stop at the list of news instead of clicking into the news.

could that not be by the same people reading it only once, not two times (as there are half the alerts)?.  I just can't see the logic that you would only click on a news article if sent through a message.

No, news read went down from close to 100% to 0.4% read. In the old system, the only way to get a news alert to go away was to read (or delete) individual PM.

The only change I see for V3 is that one of the links is deep, the other link still goes to group. I see new alert count for news in V3 and news alerts goes away if I click "clear all" even though other items, such as friends request remains.

Below is for V3:

1) A news alert has been generated, but I have no way of knowing

2) After much scrolling I happen to see it

3a) I click on the link and it takes me to the group, no indication that there is a new news. News items goes away from alert section even though I never clicked into it.

3b) Or I click "clear all"... friends request remains, news goes away.

I do not think this change will increase readsership of news.

False alarm. It appears that the news fix has not been deployed yet.

Come to think about it, when we get notification such as above that our Moderator group has news, there is nothing to see either. Hmmm

Reget that I rang the false alarm!  I thought it was fixed, but had not tested it...  wishful thinking!

Hello all, this is an important but very long thread. I noticed from the original posting and early replies that admins are having a difficult time getting announcements to reach group members. Eight hours ago I became an admin of a pretty large group, and I want to send out a timely announcement. What method is likely to reach the highest percentage of members in the current system/ Composing a note, or an alert, or what?

Apologies for posting a remedial question (I didn't sift through this entire thread to try to uncover the answer...). Thanks.

I think you get the old-style alert if an existing news post was edited, and a news alert with a link to the article when a new one is posted but not 100% sure

Using the statistics in your OP, an average of 37 read it before and 19 afterwards.  If the 'close to 100%' means through messages, I doubt it.  Just saying.

Indeed the fix has not been made yet. Please let's discuss this by PM Joakim before we announce any more changes. The way some of these items are going to work needs to be discussed. We are only delaying progress until we have all the facts. We will be sure to release when the news has been fixed for now and how it will be working. Thanks All

Many or us are unpatience... lol Me included. So dam timeconsuming sending PM to members. 

But on the other hand. My Groups will never sleep. We need to keep up the momentum with team matches to the group go to sleep. 

Thoose groups that starts to stop Team Matches will have a hard time waking up members. 

Just saying. 

The way news seems now I compare with Junk mail inbox. Its easy two ignore and delete without reading.

If I receive an email in your inbox so it's highly likely that I see and read it.
