you can have two players of a similar rating but the the average win opponent is much greater. the RD doesnt help with this difference in skill...

RD tells you if someone who is rated 1500 is very close to 1500 (small RD) or somewhere in the 1200-1800 range (high RD). Average opponent is a flawed statistic in it's own right: if 2 players are exactly of the same skill level, and only plays only 1200 players while the other plays 1800 players, their rating should still be about the same. Moreso, I was in the 1200-1400 range on this site from Nov08 to about Nov10, 2 years, and had a very high Avg Opp for my rating - somewhere around 1500. Now in the last couple months I have gone up significantly in rating, and yet because of the small sample size since I've been at this rating, my Avg Opp is now much less than my rating - still about 1500.
