Why not write an email to support or at least post this complaint at the app store, where somebody might see it?  Is it possible that you are mistaken?

This comes from the iphone app page:

That web page is wrong, the app store now says iOS 7 required.

That being said, mdridwan47, how old is your phone? I have a 4S and just updated it to 8.3.

How is it an insult to build the software to the latest OS? It would be more of an insult if it never advanced and continued to use a 5 year old SDK (that's a Software Development Kit).

I'm running an iPod Touch 4G which only supports up to iOS 6.

Chess.com realeased iOS 7 version of the app a long time ago. But it's iOS 6 version also worked. But today they went out of their way to disable live chess from the iOS 6 version. Yesterday it worked just fine.

You did not state how it was an insult. I do not think that word means what you think it means.

Apple is getting ready to realease iOS 9. You should prepare yourself to be insulted by a whole bunch more app developers.

JerryKasporav

I'm running Debian 6 on my computer and Android 2.2 on my phone you insensitive Apple upgrade brigade!

Sethersme

I was using a first gen iPad upgraded to v5 and was playing fine until the update. I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. Live chess is almost unplayable on my laptop because it's so small.

Yes I did. Read my reply again.

You actually didn't read my reply, did you?

I read your reply. Then I read it again. Then, just to make sure I remembered my elementary school education, I looked uop the definition of "insult".

Since you used it as a verb, I copied that definition here (and yes, you can use insult as a noun also):

insult

verb in·sult \in-ˈsəlt\

to do or say something that is offensive to (someone) : to do or say something that shows a lack of respect for (someone)

So, how did chess.com either (a) do something offensive to you or (b) do something that showed a lack of respect? It is offensive to you that chess.com is updating their product while you are not? Or is it a lack of respect to you that chess.com is updating their product while you are not?

If it is the former, be prepared to be offended quite a bit in the future. If it is the latter, then those of us who prefer to keep up with advances in technology would feel it is a lack of respect if they did not keep up with our investment in new technology.

And your little bolded stuff are moot points. If you insist on using old technology you will be left behind and find yourself missing out on a lot of things. Time, and technology, moves on. You should, too.

But hey, you have a GREAT DAY! :)

Wow! You just redefined the well establised definition of dumb right there. First you misquote me as if I was agianst updating the app. Then you google-> copy-> paste, pretnding (poorly) to be psudo-intellectual by trying to lecture me about the defintion of 'insult'. Seriously, how insecure are you?

And F.Y.I. delibaretly crippling the app which used to work fine side by side with the updated version is insulting to older gen device users.

Rsava

And you just showed your superior intellect by calling me names? You have no response to me so you come out with the "let’s call him names so no one realizes I don't have a clue what I'm doing" tactic.

Wow! You must lead a truly miserable life. Not once did I call you any type of name, but hey, since you started it.

I copied the definition for you because you obviously do not understand the definition of the word. I was attempting to help you out. You are obviously ignorant of the definition. But you are so ungrateful to someone trying to educate you that you call them names. And I did not "google->copy->paste". I can do that, but I did  not do that this time.

Insecure? Talk about being insecure. You feel the need to personally attack someone who disagrees with you. Are you too insecure to use grown up concepts of civilized debate without calling people names?

You're the one who feels "insulted" because chess.com is changing its site/features to keep up with technology. Are you too insecure that you're afraid to move on to new stuff? Do you still have a rotary phone? Is your home internet still 56K? Do you still get your news via telegraph?

Seriously, are you really "offended" by what chess.com did? Did what they do show a lack of respect to you? If so, how did they disrespect you and how is it not disrespectful to those of us not still living in the last decade?

(You still have not stated how it is "insulting" based on the common definition of the word. You have given reasons that you are mad, but those are in no way related to the definitions that are commonly accepted in the real world. Those are the only two definitions for "insult" as a verb and you still have not answered the question. Instead, since you have run out of grown up ideas yu resort to 3rd grade school yard tactics of name calling. But I am sure with all of your "intellectual" skill you can do it, just try! Oh, I also showed this to my 6 year old son, He laughed at you for being "insulted". Even 6 year olds know what a fool you look like.)

Hahahaha! I'm done playing with you now little one, you can go back to your mommy and come back when you grow up.

Have a FANTASTIC DAY! Buh-bye!

ok guys, SHUT UP!

Hi everyone!

Unfortunately, due to the nature of software upgrades, we're unable to support iOS 6 and below. If you are able to, you should upgrade your iOS to 7 or above to be able to use our current app.

If you are unable to upgrade your iOS to 7 or above, I apologize!

mjr_briggs

Hi Kirkwood,

It sure is annoying to be able to play one day, and not the next. It would be interesting for us which are using ios 6 to hear what exactly happened so you were able to support ios 6 all the time, and now suddenly you cannot. If it is something Apple did and there is no way around it, then it can be understood. But if it was simply something that required more work for you guys, then it is not ok, especially towards us who are paying for the premium membership. And of course your explanation might influence our decision to renew the membership.

Please consider making a Classic Chess app for lower version of iOS like you did for Android. So that older device owner can also use play in chess.com. I really miss Chess.com app pn my iPod Touch.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay!

So the reasoning behind dropping the old app is that we're preparing the site for v3 and all of the improvements that come with it. The old app utilized out-of-date APIs that frankly wouldn't work with the new version of Live Chess. We provided support for it as long as we possibly could, but with changes to our site and the mobile version, it was just no longer possible to support both apps with our resources.

The biggest feedback I'm receiving from you guys is that we need to be more out front with changes like this, and I have passed that concern along to the developers. Thank you for the input, and again I apologize for the inconvenience.

dragonair234

Go figure. Just do a software update. (:
