Custom Trophies

I can't find the message that has the specs... must have accidentally deleted it.. I will request it again and post it here...

I then suggest anyone who wants to create their own trophies do so and send them to kohai. Up to her if she accepts/uploads them or not. I think we all know what we can and cannot get away with here...

I did send her an idea for one trophy as a joke.. but won't post here what it was :p... she knew I was kidding and laughed...

Lemme guess, not exactly the FTW (For The Win!) trophy, but close?

Basically, rewarding somebody for completely suprising you (positvely or negatively); I have a hard time reifying that into an image.

Is that for the most active member in your group/year?

Not just that but like loads of teams run internal competitions in various groups and I just thought it would be good to be able to design our own trophies for specific "events"

This kind of reminds me of other online gaming communities that have "clans" that want to establish hierarchy through badges and ranks.

And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm just pointing out that its the same tried-and-true mechanism: encouraging participation through recognition.

A more active group not only recruits from inside the site but looks outside as well (read: Referral Trophies). This can only be a good side-effect for Chess.com.

Don't they have them widgets to put on other accounts outside of chess.com like facebook and myspace?

Could be. But I don't "do" those sites. I am ever faithful and devoted to Chess.com that meets all my social-networking needs, but without all the creeps.*

No but then how would you refer someone to chess.com if this is the ONLY internet site you use?

Hey! I got (reluctant) relatives. And some (very) mildly interested co-workers.

But my role is passive to their active. I'm the magnet. I attract where they recruit.

Great Idea - like where this is heading!

Everyone knows that I LOVE Custom Trophies, and every tournament I create has them.  So we can alrady upload our own images for trophies in this case, and I don't think there has been any abuse of it over the last few years (I may be wrong).  And I agree that the potential for abuse should not be a reason to discard the idea completely.  So I support this idea, but I can also see that, with all the things on the staff's collective plate, this isn't exactly a top priority issue.

One thing I would REALLY like to see is a Trophy Showcase for GROUPS (just like we have as individuals).  There are many tournaments and leagues that various groups compete in all the time, and I'm sure that many of these groups would LOVE to display something that shows how their group won first place!!  Just as I'm sure that most of the organizers of these tournaments and leagues would love to give them out to all the finalists.

You won't be able to put your own names on them Alan... there are no scripts written in chess.com to allow that and as far as I know won't be.. unless that changes in the future.

I'm doing them today... going to do a blank trophy, and one for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

It also would be a nice idea, if we can upload our own custom trophie when we want to send a trophie to our opponent.
