...i will also add that i'm aware you are a long time member and have been staff for about a year or more. but, your concentration is the cf, and this is only the second time i've seen a post from you as staff. my wonder is if you have perused the regular forms regularly. don't take this the wrong way, but, due to your lack of prescence, a concern might be your reaction to posts/topics that may be on the edge, as martin writes below.

That's kind of harsh. ok, after re-reading it i agree. lps, i apologize for the poor wording that appeared to insinuate you aren't a competent staff member. so, i have edited my post here, in red, to try to be more precise.

It only takes "presence" on the forums when actively moderating. Most of the things that need action are very simple and straightforward. There are others that may be technically against posting rules that take discretion and/or discussion but nothing predicated on how present the mod has appeared in the forums in the past.

I know that I try to err on the side of being more lenient in edge cases and either leave it to other mods/staff or bring it up for discussion.

martin, your erring on the side of leniencly when discretion becomes subjective is (i think) done very well. i've noticed in some instances you will post warning the member of possible violations, thereby bringing more attention to the topic/post, and also giving the poster a slap on the wrist.

however, while i understand a lack of presence (read: posts) by some staff doesn't mean they're not out there monitoring, i hope you and others understand how said lack of posting may be perceived.

there are other issues members have.

why do we need a workaround to post videos? i've read that pics and vids may be lost going to v3. it's as if cc wants members to interact, but, at a limit. the transition to v2 led to topics where people posted the steps necessary for gifs and videos. the example of this is trysts ten greatest of music thread.

another example of the failure of transition is how games are posted. there is this thread for v2: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/a-guide-to-posting-your-games-on-chesscom. why wouldn't cc show and explain how to post games?

Martin_Stahl

I posted a video a couple of days ago and didn't require any workarounds.

How to post games is essentially the same in v3 as it is in v2. I never read the help articles to do it, though I have pointed other members wth questions to them.

I can't post video clips. I used to do it occasionally but something changed and I then had to go to great lengths to try various methods which never worked either.

I can, however, post gifs
