Not anything really to do with v3. You don't say which app or which version either.

bugs and birds prefer v2

Martin_Stahl

The apps, with the exclusion of the Classic one, have been working against the v3 back-end for a couple of years.

If there is a problem with the app, it is an app issue, not v3. But being a computer guy, I would think you could understand the distinction. frustrated.png

Edit: I should clarify that it is possible that a v3 update could break things in the app but v3 in and of itself isn't why the app may have an issue (exluding the Classic app as I have no idea how that hooks into the site)

I just tried with the Android beta app, 3.5.0b2 and it works.

Daily play: I had to resort to Old Chess.com to be able to play at all.

I like V3, but please don't abandon V2 until all the bugs are ironed out.

I have no problems.  I play rapid and regular on my phone and my computers, Android and Win 10. No problems at all, it looks much better than before.  Good job!

From a user experience perspective, I see no benefits from V3. It appears to me, V3 is a ad monetization effort designed to provide more ad income. Possibly a new look might induce more clicks. Indirectly this new helps users who are using the site for free. But for paid subscribers?? I am still attempting to understand why anyone would subscribe other than from a charitable donation point of view. Subscription revenue is probably modest, and  is therefore considered inconsequential and its now become a matter of clicks? I have moved my play to other sites, though the forum here is still very active and interesting.

Chess is an odd sort of game, like Scrabble, which seems to be best monetized by ads. Of course, this means that functionality is less important than number of members and clicks.

Like I said earlier, according to some people v3 is perfect and it is just the users who are wrong.

The first 5-6 pages of this forum - ( https://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/v3-a-sign-of-progress-or-imminent-disaster ), though dated, are quite interesting and relevant.

The more I look, the more I find forums like these around the site with different sets of malcontents like me that V3 is just not an upgrade.

So many are saying the same darn thing, Martin, yet, Erik continues to hold on to the dream of V3.  Ponderous... .

Bellerophontis

I was changing the theme in my team

and I tried to click on members   to see who is on-line now

but  I just discovered tjhat this facility is missing from V3

in V2 not only you can see who is on-line now but at the same time you can see who is on-line from your new members too in 2 differrent rows with pictures at a glance!

Unbelievable downgrade in team's easy run

** It seems that all these details and informations you can see at a glance in V2 are made difficult to get in V3  (like compare chess pieces missing etc)

and that is a serious downgrade

all these things you can see at a glance in V2 you have to scroll or click on differrent icons and then scroll etc to get them if they exist, or use your observation and memory too, this is a downgrade and it happens everywhere

 it's not only that v3 is slow, but it makes you act slow too because you don't get the information at a glance anymore

Bellerophontis

and when I say everywhere I mean it, where to start/  from the chess pieces which have gone from the game that are below the usernames and you cannot compare them?

from the time in the tactics Trainer?  that green bar with the time remaining and the average time of the problem is completely missing from V3 there is only a light grey chronometer somewhere , the bar with the on-line members of the team which i just discovered are missing too and you have to scroll 3 pages to find who's on-line/?

you cannot see anything at a glance in V3 --- the game explorer? which instead of 12 moves it shows you only 4 and you need to scroll to view the rest ? nothing at a glance

 Even when you play live chess you have to memorise the pieces are lost, you can't compare at a glance, you never know if you are up or down a pawn or a piece there

This instantaneously roll of information in V2 is the key of the serious downgrade in V3 that makes it totally unfriendly especially to the members who have learned to play in V2 like me, and if you add the icons and the hovering you may have got where the problem lies

Actually it is a combination of vital facilities they are missing from every section, plus the difficulty to get the remaining informations at a glance, plus the icons in place of words plus the scrolling and hovering, plus the double clicks in certain simple functions, like log off etc plus the slowness make a very bad mixture

I think it couldn't be worse and that is really a tour de force

   As a gesture of good faith, can I invite "clueless" to STOP posting pictures of animals in this thread. Its embarrassing. Talk about V3-V2 here. If you have any more animal pics, post them HERE; https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/pet-friends-of-chesscom

It's hard to believe how far downhill this place has gone...

Here's some examples of where i find more clicks in v3 than there were in v2. Feel free to add your own examples in the functions you use frequently...

On any game page, to download the pgn file for that game…

In v2, simply click on ”get pgn”, the file is downloaded to the default folder

In v3, click on “share” icon, a dialog box appears in the centre of the board. Click on “download”, then you get the pgn file;

On any player’s archive, you want to look at, say, the 10th game down on page 7 of their archive. Once at the player’s archive…

In v2, click on page 7, count down the column to game number 10, click on that game

In v3, scroll to the bottom of the page (page numbers are only at the bottom of the page), click on page 5 (the highest page now available, other than the last page of the archive), scroll down to the bottom of the page, click on page 7, scroll down to the 10th game, only 6 are now visible at the top of the page, click on that game;

If you want to go further into a player’s archive there are yet more clicks over and above v2. From page 1 of the archive, to go to, say, page 20 of an archive…

In v2, click on page 11, click on page 15, click on page 19, click on page 20

In v3, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 5, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 7, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 9, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 11, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 13, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 15, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 17, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 19, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on page 20;

Alerts, from your home page…

In v2, are in the alerts panel on the right-hand-side of my screen. Also visible on many other pages.

In v3, click on the “bell” icon at the top of the screen, list of alerts are now visible;

Ignoring multiple alerts – I’ve heard it argued is easier in v3, since you can now click to ignore an alert…

In v2, read the alerts you want to, then click “ignore all”. All remaining alerts are ignored with a single click

In v3, read the alerts you want to, then click each remaining alert on its own to ignore each alert;

On any game page, you want to look at the profile of either one of the players…

In v2, click on the player’s username, takes you straight to where you want to go

In v3, click on the player’s username, a profile dialog box pops up, click on the player’s username within the dialog box, then you get to where you want to go;

To see a list of forum topics you have posted in, from your home page…

In v2, hover over “Forums”, located on the green (I realise this will be different colours in different themes) bar at the top of the screen, click on “Topics I have posted in” from the drop-down menu

In v3, click on “forums”, located in a similar position, although the bar on mine is now a semi-transparent glass colour, probably black. On the new page, click on “my topics”;

To view group/club notes, there have been say, 30 notes posted since you last logged on. From the group/club home page…

In v2, click on notes, click on page 3

In v3, scroll down to “More ˅“, click on “More ˅“, scroll down to “More ˅“, click on “More ˅“, scroll down to “More ˅“, click on “More ˅“, scroll down to “More ˅“, click on “More ˅“, scroll down to “More ˅“, click on “More ˅“;
