Is that all there is to Titled Tuesdays?  If so, what a waste... I'd rather be in charge of which game(s) I watch and no channel surfing commentary from a Yeti-wannabe.

By the way:  Home Page load time in v3 - ~13 seconds.  v2 - ~4 seconds.

v3 is never going to beat v2 in performance - ever.  Any monkeywith-¾-a-brain can comprehend that.

you forgot about the constant scroll of gibberish on the right-hand-side... it's worse there than it is in these forums...

v3 is a downgrade.

  • v2 is faster.  No need to upgrade my laptop to the latest i7 with 128GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD.  v2 just loads and away I go.  I don't want to wait 30 seconds for any page to load.  Seriously, in the Age of Impatient Millenials, I'd figure your development staff would know better than to create Bloat-ware, but they have.
  • v2 works on my phone.  The Classic Chess.com app works just fine.  Lightweight and loads in seconds.  I can even do tactics.  If I need to do Admin or Forum work, I know I need to get to a real browser.
  • v2's menu is understandable.  Why?  Because its a menu.  No Iconification except for the plugs of advertisers in the lower-right corner, the buttons for editing text entries, and the 3 icons in the upper-right for "Go to game", "challenges", & "friend requests".  That's it.  Everything is either a word or and icon-with-word in a menu-driven-outlay.
  • v2 has pagination.  No need to scroll-for-days-on-end to get to the end of something.  Its quite convenient for searching forums with frequent updates, such as this "Off Topic" forum. Undecided  v2's pagination function is not perfect, but its far better than Scrolling in to the Abyss with v3.
  • v2 does not require 35 youtube videos to instruct the user how to navigate and use the site.  v2 had a bit of a learning curve, but by-in-large, new visitors to the site could work it and gain from it without much hassle... and certainly without a video.  Again, who in the Impatient Millenial Age has time for 35 youtube videos?

I could go on, but I have better things to do with my time than rant on something that won't be heard or heeded by the staff here.  All you've succeeded in doing, in my opinion, is to create a bunch of Bloat-ware with flashing lights that deters repeat usage of the site.  Go ahead, hit me with stats saying otherwise.  Tell me again how great v3 is.  I'll continue to show the flaws and the dysfunction of the greatness of v3.  Two years on, I'm convinced of only one conclusion:

v3 is a downgrade.  And why would I want to pay for such?

But to like V2 and hate V3 is not accepted. Recently all of the sudden I was called a troglodyte because of this, 100% greek word for a tramp, a beggar, a junkie who takes his doze of heroine in desolated houses like V2  I guess. This is what troglodyte means in pure greek. Soon i will be leaving chess.com with the worst memories, enough to keep me away as long as I live

While I was able to watch partial clips, I heard someone somehow had gotten Aman's PC to sound out "HI AMAN" in a computerized voice for 30-40 seconds before he could figure out how to mute it.  The chat-session has had no improvement for content managment from v2 to v3.  People are as able to spam and be as idiotic as ever.  Someone was able to put up a link/advertisement to an adult site.  Not something I want my kids to log in and see, anyway.

No individual ability to click-and-block-content from users one deems illegitimate or inappropriate.  No, the only 'content' filter options are coded behind an Icon one must somehow locate and decipher, which are catch-all filters: GM-only, Friends-only (which means one has to somehow be able to 'friend' someone on the fly, or new-comers would never be heard/seen), and a couple of others.  If I see an idiot, I want to block the idiot's content.  Period.

FWIW, every year, I give the kids in my elementary school chess club a list of online resources to consume over the summer break.  Once again, this site was not in my list for reasons listed above.

They seem to say that they had to change, as otherwise V2 would simply cease to work properly, anyhow.

Can anyone recall what was the ostensible reason for this calamitous change in the first place?

Whatever you've been told is lies.  All lies.  The primary reason is added advertising.  ADVERTISING.  It's all about the advertising. Chess is a secondary concern, or tertiary, or quaternary, quinary, senary, septenary, octonary, nonary, and denary....or eventually...not at all.

Lag issues ... has there been any response anyone has heard in the forums from staff? Very obviously, something recent has dramatically slowed the site down, not just a little bit, but pages, especially daily games never loading, and all the error messages?

sigh . . . .economics.  What a lame way to run a chess site.  I have never watched a Titled Tuesday, regularly mock Maggie Carlsen fan boys and have no need of Grandmasters getting my kicks for me.  Chess players are not the same as football fans.

Big dreams

Big $

Put Chess in the spotlight ! There's big bucks to be made.

On everybody's flat screen... selling pop corn and soda pop.

The Sinquefield Cup is precisely what it needs to be - format fitting the function for what's required.  Maurice, Jen, Yasser provide the fitting commentary and play-by-play.

You don't see them trying to 'upgrade' their broadcast formats to acclimate to newer super 4D HD technology and such.  Or mix it up by adding in 14 new GM commentators all sitting at a round-table, each with a limited 2-sentences each diatribe, for play-by-play with users needing to click on specific Icons to see or hear each comment by each guest-GM.  And claim they needed to do it just to upgrade because the old format wouldn't handle the current trends in technology or whatever.

v3 is a downgrade.   Wrong format for the wrong function its trying to fulfill.  v2 was & is still a better fit for what chess.com ... is.

I still use v2 - every day - evry time.

Me and Charlotte and Pam are going to be the last three people on the v2 train when they turn out the lights and lock the doors.

you guys have no link to version 2?

Sure at anytime you can type in your address bar www.chess.com/switch it will work in both directions. V2 to V3 and V3 to V2. Good Luck

I think the words must have been taken out, but the icon to switch back is still there, and in the same location:

null

I would prefer to think that you are wrong, as that is the last thing I want to believe.

For now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and think they have just lost the plot.

I would not want to tell a Greek what his own language means.

But,in English, the word has taken on the primary meaning of a person who obstinately refuses to accept change.

We ignorant English could say "caveman" and mean much the same thing.

But, I would ask you this, has the word "troglodyte" in Greek always meant what your definition says?

I ask because I would think that the ancient Greeks did not have heroin addiction problems, even amongst the lower classes that you mention.

BTW, I remain blocked by you, which os OK. But each time you send me a message, I actually try to reply. I will continue to do say, as I am a tolerant man, and in spite of your seeming opinion, like you.

A pity in a way, as I think we could get on OK.

I think the link still works, it just doesn't switch right away, but asks an additional question in a red banner:

nullI surmise that clicking on it actually switches.

@gambit-man Yes, the text in the screen shot doesn't appear until you hover over the icon.

I note that the same icon is used for "Flip board", although that one is invisible until you hover over the "Resize board" icon:

null

I guess they didn't want to go to the trouble of designing a new icon just for switching back to the old Chess.com, presumably because it wasn't going to be required for long. At the time, anyway

At least we will part on reasonable terms, David.

I, too, have a sense of humour.
