I absolutely love it!  Whoever thought of that deserves a raise.  Good job chess.com!

What is focus mode?

chrka

It's something you can enter to get rid of most of the stuff except the board while playing:

To enter it, hover over the resize control and click on the Focus Mode button:

(Note that you have to be in the "New Chess.com" in order to try it out — if you're not already, go to https://chess.com/switch or click on "Try the new Chess.com" at the bottom of the page.)

Less distractions (if that's your thing)

How can I make the board to be in the middle of the screen? When I focus mode the board keeps in the same position. everyhing else disappears but the board doesn't move.

And how can I activate it in tactics trainer?

What happened to the computer analysis ?

dr_chessdad

one problem is that you don't see your opponent's draw offer.

chrka

@SkyMarshal It seems to depend on how wide your window is currently. We don't have it in Tactics Trainer yet but that is a nice idea

@dr_chessdad When you get a draw offer it shows up next to the draw button:

In the top right corner, there's the icon of 4 arrows pointing inwards

BlackLionOrangutnKid

I'm sure most players love this focus mode...can you please adjust one thing though?

You know the little + numbers that tell where you stand materially?  like +3  +1 ?  Those numbers are in white and very hard to see against the moon background.  Can you just change the numbers to BLACK?  So they're easier to see.  I'm sure it's a small change for the programmer to make.  Thank you.  Great job on the focus mode.

@staff: soryy, may i'm a little bit stupid, i saw the icon with 4 arrows, but when i click on it, it gives me the initial time (5 Mn for instance) but nothing else happen...i stay on "focus mode"..itriedto see anywhere else to click, i dont see nothing, and i have to disconnect to getaway and comme back to chess.com....(i'm frenchman, is there any "user mode" in french for the focus mode somewhere? Thanks

chrka

If you're not playing or observing a game it will show you the board and the clocks, but also a couple of buttons you can use to create a new game (in much the same way as when you enter Live):

If you're already playing or observing a game, that game should be shown on the board.

That's odd - when I hover my mouse over that icon, I see the text "Exit Focus Mode", and clicking on it switches it out of Focus Mode back to the original. Can you post a screen shot of what you're seeing?

I don't know if the FAQ and Support articles have been translated into French, but the English versions don't include instructions about Focus Mode yet either - sorry.

TheLordOfTheStrings

No it's ok now..i tried 5 minutes ago, and the "exit focus mode" appeared....Maybe a wrong click from , i dont know, but anyway it works...The "new" chess.com is better, more ergonomic and style...AND i can play 960 now, yeahhhhhh!!!!! ;+)

Bilbo21

Is it just me or does the board cover up the clocks in focus mode?

BlackLionOrangutnKid

Bilbo and Chaman:  Try zooming in or out the entire screen . . . that will solve your problems.

JustADude80

Does it show the pieces, or just the board?

I know it sounds crazy to have a feature that removes the pieces, but your example shows just a board with no pieces.

chrka

It does show the pieces as well! (The first screenshot was taken earlier when we showed the board empty when no game or analysis was going on.)
