It surely is better than 1580 !
But seriously , a reasonable club player should have a rating between 1700 .. 1900 so you are not that far off.

The other thing to consider is that online ratings are significantly inflated here. I'd like to think that I am a mid-1700s player, but the reality is that I'm much closer to my blitz rating (1520 at the moment but I'm in a slump ;) - in reality I reckon I'm about 1600 based on my OTB performances). The blitz pool is the strongest here + therefore the toughest. It also has the benefit of putting everyone on a level; in online chess some people take all 3 days to make a move while some make all their moves in one night without thinking about it (cough ;) ).
The last thing is that the average opponent statistic can be screwy; my blitz average opponent is around 1300 I think, but that's because I've improved a lot recently and it has yet to catch up. I have my settings so that I never play anybody more than 1 point below me.
Also, your 1582 rating is after 4 games, 3 of which you won. You can expect it to still have some wavering around to go before it stops being provisional.
I probably still have alot of won games in front of me...
And losses too, with that attitude. Everyone loses.

So how is that any different that an OTB tournament at G/60 where one player uses 59 minutes and the other player uses 10 minutes.
Saying it puts everyone on the same level and using your example doesn't make sense. Both players have 3 days (or whatever), how they choose to use it is their perogative.

That's a good point, I guess. I suppose it's true that people are still on a level. The difference is that one person may have many more games than the other and can't devote as much time / attention to each. I guess you could say that that is also their prerogative, but it's not something you get in a G/60 game anyway.
1580 in online chess on chess.com is ok. I find that the chess.com online chess ratings are inflated by about 3-400 points from the official ones (like USCF), for example my USCF rating is 1587 and my online chess rating is 1866. So, you'd probably be about 11-1200 USCF, which isn't bad, but given that the average tournament player is rated a bit above 1400, you are below average as far as serious players go.
It's better than my current rating, so hats off. Get a good coach and you'll go far.
good to know, thanks !
umm okay I hardly play 1100 rated players.
