Keep/save in-game annotations permanently!

Just recently I discovered that the in-game analysis board also has the board editors functionality -i.e, you can annotate/comment, and make variations. Though, the live analysis board lacks all but the variations part. However, I was very disappointed when I found that when a game is over, that all the annotations and variations you made during the game is gone.

Unless I am unaware of where to look -which is very likely and so I do wish enlightenment-, I would like to suggest keeping/saving the annotations and all comments, variations made during a game permanently. I think it would be magnificent to be able to go back to a game and see your annotations and variations that one thought of. One could download it at any time and even share it in the analysis sections of the forum.

Perhaps adding a feature that allows one to control whether the annotations/variations made in-game is set to public or not afterwards. It may also be worth considering allowing others to make their own comments/annotations from the game itself without having to open it up in the analysis board/editor. Whether they be able to do it during or after a game, their annotations could be posted in the comment section of a game page.

Of course, my suggestions above are in regards to the Daily Chess in-game analysis board. Perhaps adding similar functionalities to the live chess analysis board could be considered, but for that, perhaps it is much simpler to leave it as it is -where people can simply copy and paste the PGN into the analysis board/editor.

Did you know that feature was added just last week?

It was mentioned in CEO Erik's blog.

I am sure they will be happy to have your feedback. I hope you made a bug report.

No, I did not know this. I think I discovered it before that blog post was posted. I do not think this is a bug since, as far as I can tell, the feature is working as it should -i.e it saves annotations during game. My only suggestion is to save whatever annotations/comments/variations permanently even after a game is finished.

Perhaps this may be a bug, but I would not know since I may be missing a large part of it's functionality - am I?

I also would love to be able to save permanently the annotations and variations that I analyze during a daily chess game.  Did you figure out a way to do it, or give feedback to site designers?

No, I do not think this is possible at the moment. I did leave my feedback along with this forum post. I do hope this feature gets developed. It would be very helpful and would definitely add more reason to buying a membership.

I wanted to bump this, since I consider it critical for a player improvement, to check after the game if your analysis 'in-situ' was correct, or what you miscalculated is key to learn from your errors. Saving all this analysis elsewhere just to put it back on this site or any other chess software for analysis after the game ends makes the analysis board a less useful tool since you already had all your inputs there.

Hey, any analysis you save for in-progress daily games is persisted even when the game is over. Just access it from your archive

Really? I should check it out then. Thank you :-)

oh I just checked it in the web app, you can access the analysis board just like during the game and download the pgn with all your inputs from there! great tip and great feature!! happy.png

That's great.  Looks like Chess.com upgraded / bug-fixed the feature because annotations / notes used to disappear when viewing old games from the Archive.  Thanks Chess.com!

Yes, thank you chess.com :-)
