Why isn't a knock out tourny an option on the create a tourny page. If it is I couldn't find it.

Assuming you mean one vs one matches then choose a group size of 2. Keep in mind the tie break does not work in a group of 2 so sometimes there is no knockout.

I mean a match where when you lose you are eliminated and the winners are matched up with each other till a finals match results. You could have from four players to any even number of players. I've seen it on many other chess sites and am surprised it is not offered here. I'm not an IT guy but it seems like it wouldn't be that difficult as compared to setting up live chess

Sounds like single-elimination with only one game between two players rather than two games.

Not arguing against a possible new format, but for the purpose of debate.

Regardless of it being available elsewhere, a one game match seems inappropriate where one side starts with an advantage.

With the existing system, where two players are in a group, each side has White once. On the other sites, are there complaints about playing Black?

I've never heard of any complaints. I guess if we were to be completely fair then all matches would have to go three games to see who really is better. In a knock-out the higher rated player could get white, or it could be random, or the lower rated player gets white to even it out.

My original question was why is this not offered.I think it is a bad idea to just have one type of tourny to satisfy everyone  One advantage to knock-out is it takes less time for most involved since half the players are eliminated after the first game. Thanks for the response TadDude. You've raised some thoughtful ideas
