Live chess observers

Hello all,

As I attained respectable live chess ratings (bullet and blitz 2100+), it has come to my attention that I often get observers watching my game. It is a humbling and at the same time honouring feeling, but I bet they are all here to watch the titled player I'm playing destroy me.

This leads to my question: why do players not have access to observation lists? As an observer, it will tell you the users in the room, but if you are playing, it would only show if your opponent has left the chat. Then, the observers comment out of the blue to let me know they're there.

So I think it might be an interesting idea to have an observers list for each game, for everyone to access? Tongue Out

I agree with this.

I agree, its strange to finish a game and find yourself in the middle of a conversation between the spectators; it would be nice if there was a "show observer chat" button that appears after the game and shows observers joining, leaving and chatting.

True that. I want to be able to see the progression of comments that happen when I face a titled/high rated player. It would be nice if they were timestamped (timewise and chess clockwise) so we can see the playbyplay. I've observed some highly rated games and saw some interesting kibitz, hopefully I can see kibitz for my own games to improve.

Then they could suggest moves .

That's why the observer comments would only appear after the game

Right, players can't view observers comments during the game.

I mean all observer coments from during the game would appear after the game

After the game the comments will flood the chat box. Too bad. Sealed

Imagine playing any game under 10|0, you're concentrating on your game how distracting is it likely to be to keep seeing usernames coming and going in your game chat area?

For those most followed, as an example in a 1|0 you're likely to see something like this constantly every second of the game appearing in the chat:

Users in the room: player1, player3, player2

trycheck has joined the chat.
player1 has joined the chat.
player3 has joined the chat.
player2 has joined the chat.
player1 has left the chat.
player4 has joined the chat.
player7 has joined the chat.
player9 has joined the chat.
player11 has joined the chat.
player10 has joined the chat.
player00 has joined the chat.
player112 has joined the chat.
player09 has joined the chat.
player4 has left the chat.
player7 has left the chat.
player9 has left the chat.
player11 has left the chat
player1 has joined the chat.

Or everytime people joined the top list showing Users in the room would keep updating which would again be distracting to the players.
They shouldn't need to be distracted by people coming and going in their game chats while they are playing their game.

Players cannot see game chat while they are playing, just as observers cannot see what the players are saying.

The main aim is to allow the players to play with the least distraction possible.

Why not set an option that allows you to switch it off?

Thanks kohai. That is very pertinent as an argument, I even considered it myself. Maybe we don't have to be too ambitious, and just settle for a "show observers" command at the end of the game (where the analysis options lie), or even better, state that ** members observed your game everytime the game finishes.

Also, after the game, both parties (observers and players) can see everything posted right? I often see late heckling after the game ends, and I wonder if they can see my reply.

I'll see what I can do :)

My stalking wont work if you're going to start telling people I'm watching them.

i agree with pip to allow players to see the observers chat after the game.

ErictheRed78

How about just let us see a list of players who are observing?
