However, I'm sure that the fair play policy cannot terminate a game prematurely.  It just gives you a warning after the game has finished.

Then you'd be wrong - they can and DO prematurely erminate games when you think too long, EVEN IF you have ample time on the clock.

mine will randomly say i have connection issues(when i don't) and then say i abandoned without giving normally allotted time. why does this happen?

I must confirm killing_joke’s theory. Happened to me too. Maybe it is related to signal issues, but even then they should comminicate this.

Right i know how it is supposed to work. It basicly said i abandoned without ever loosing signal and not timer or nothing. it was half way through the game.

Exactly why a game is declared abandoned is not always clear.

However, on a game the other day, you took more than 5:00 on your 3rd move. That caused the long move timer to declare your game abandoned.

The long move timer got you on this game too.

If you let your clock run for five minute on one of your first ten moves (in a ten minute game), it will be declared abandoned.

I have been abandoned twice within two days now. I cant find my cases reading abandoning rules.

I know there was a server restart on the 7th and there may have been another last night. When the Live server is restarted, all ongoing games are aborted.

Planned restarts are usually done around 1 am Pacific time, or UTC 8 am.

Super frustrating CHESS.COM!!!!  I just lost because of a FAKE ABANDONMENT.  Over six minutes on the clock.  Less than 10 seconds between moves.  This is clearly an issue with the chess.com system.  Are there any humans reading these messages from chess.com that care enough to address this issue?  If not, then I guess the only option is to ABANDON chess.com and go with another online chess platform.
