MAKE DRAW OFFERS STAND OUT MORE

Sort:
Dodger111

I've lost count of how many times an opponent has asked me "Why didn't you accept the draw offer?" , sometimes after several offers, because I just didn't notice it. Same on my side, my opponent just didn't see the draw offer pop up.

I think it makes a sound. Don't you have sound turned on?

It makes no sound I'm talking about online, not live. A little note way at the top of the screen  says something like  "Your opponent has offered you a draw do you accept" but unless you're looking for it it's easy to miss.  I've had games where we both offered a draw and we both missed it.

Should be required to answer no before a move is accepted like other chess sites.

Pretty suck

I've had this happen in live chess a few times. I felt a bit like a heel for not accepting appropriatly offered draws.

As for the sound;the sound is way too low in live games. And, when you add on top of that, AC/DC blasting in the background, it is quite difficult to hear the sounds.

agreed, something should be done to make a draw offer more noticable. can we get a poll on this or something?

You make too much sense; so, your thoughts must be discarded.

It makes a sound, and "draw" turns orange.  Its just a matter of looking at it.

Im not trying to be rude, but how do you not see it?

pretty easy to miss if you're listening to music and paying attention to the game board. also, in correspondence, there is no sound, just a hard to notice message.

I agree, I often repeat offers a couple of times since I can't tell if the opponent declined intentionally, and I don't like doing that since it seems like poor etiquette to repeatedly offer a draw.

i know exactly what you mean. i usually end up offering a draw ever subsequent move until it ends in a draw anyway (like a repitition or insuffecient material, and even one 50 move rule draw)

NO IT DOES NOT MAKE A SOUND IN CORRESPONDANCE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT LIVE

I am the jerk who never answers you in chat, because I don't ever look there, and don't know you said something intelligent. It's the same difference with draw offers apparently, because I can't remember ever seeing one.

Beelzebub666, I don't see how you violate etiquette, if you keep making draw offers to a chess.com doofus like me, but you are wasting your time. I guess I could get affronted, if I had any idea you offered 10 draws; but, I wouldn't know.

While I agree draw offers should be more prominent (yes, I've missed several), I disagree with requiring a "no response" before continuing the game.  When in time pressure, as we all get, just making a move, as currently done, should be enough to decline the draw.  Having to reply "no" could cause you to lose on time to someone who is a rook or a queen down and just makes draw offers on every move. I've had opponents try this in tournaments.

Maybe instead of just the offer appearing in the chat box, something could be done on the board border, like having it turn a color?  Just an idea...

Way to much seriousmess over this...

requiering a responce before allowing a move would only be in correspondence, and i agree, there is way too much argument on this thread, especially for such a simple issue.

I'm out of here guys! Later!

Correspondence was the whole point how many times do I have to say it, not talking about live.
