What do you think of changing the term "Friend"  on Chess.com to "Contact/s", or some similar term?... "Opponent", "Challenger", "Player" ?

Something more relevant. and less relative.

Im against it.  The term "friend" doesnt have to be taken literally, but there is nothing wrong with referring to each other as friend.

But why should we have to change our nomenclature? The other friend lot should think up a new word, since we're in the majority. I suggest they can go with a longer word - like    f r  i   e   n     n       n        d        d.

"Friends" on the internet don't have to and usually don't mean the same thing as they do in real life.

Yes, I think most people understand this distinction implicitly.  I doubt too many people are being led astray by the dichotomy.

You guys are breaking my heart here. I thought I had finally found some friends, here on chess.com. Now I find out that it's all a dichotomy and these friends aren't "real" friends.Cry

Dear Broken Hearted,  I'll be your friend.  I'll be anybody's friend who is fair and understanding. (That might exclude some.)  I'm easy going and have skin as tough as blue-harden-steel.

Well, given that from a global pool of 215,504,519 members,...
11 divided members considered the topic of "My Friends" to be a matter worth expressing an opinion.

I'd say there is substantial evidence to suggest that a radical change in the definitions library is warranted!

Yes, from what I have read in these threads, because there might be more than some excluded.

Seems that drawing distinction of relational terms, is part of recorded history!
