New Live Chess Connection Type: websocket!

Hey Chess.com! Live Chess just got better for MOST people this week. Check out this graph of our connection distribution: http://i.imgur.com/WIdmIK9.png

That shows the round-trip time for a chess move in milliseconds.

You can see that a few days ago that graph improved a lot. Why? Websocket

Most of you should have slightly faster and more stable connection than before (when we were using ONLY cometd/long-polling).

Anyway, I hope it's better for all of you!

That said, we are of course looking out for any issues. If you are having live chess connection problems that started in the last 1-2 days, please post here. Tell me what kind of computer you have (operating system), what browser, what kind of internet, and what country you are in.

Thanks!

Is this why I've been seeing 502 errors and the live chess server crashed?

erik

those were unrelated. that was yesterday we had mysql blow up on us :/ if mysql crashes hard, it kills live chess.

I just went ove to check it out, starred a game, this is what I got back, GAME ABORTED - knightspawn5 vs. Bohlool - Game has been aborted by the sever.

How come?  Is live chess dead because mysql blew up yesterday?

The first move should be made within 10 seconds. Or else, the game will be aborted by the server.
