And where is chess.com supposed to draw the line at offensive images? I don't know what the offensive images were, why don't you describe them and see how trivial other members think they were?
Office_Chick banned
They were images of a naked woman. That maybe a small handful of people saw. I am not trying to justify a violation of chess.coms posting rules. I am simply saying she had many friends who now miss her and believe she deserves another chance. that is all
Yeah, rules are rules, but maybe not every punishment should bea life ban.a week or even a
month ban is sometimes enough
Her friends can contact the staff and request a reinstatement, I dunno if that will do any good or not but I suppose it couldn't hurt - she's already expelled. If nothing else suggesting temporary bans might be considered by the staff in the future.
The fact that you use the word "images" makes me think that she may have had a number of "second chances." No doubt a good friend of yours, and I see your point, but she's clearly lacking a little common sense. This is an all ages site with very clear guidelines on that sort of thing. Personally I don't find that kind of thing trivial. I'm a father and can't stand some people's attitudes to how they behave on sites such as this. I do really respect when it is moderated as I would like to think that I can trust a site like this for my kids. If you want to share naked images, there are other sites for that. I'm not against this person rejoining chess.com, but I think they need to grow up first.
Sally, you can't be serious. Posting a photo won't make a difference. There were imageS. All the photos need to be posted as evidence since one photo could be more offensive than the rest.
This did not happen in the public forum. And this was not intended to be a jury trial where we debate whether chess.com was justified in their actions. It is a plea on behalf of a friend. I do not consider images of a naked woman to be pornographic. Her personality was artistic by nature. No one was hurt, no harm was done. I have done worse, was banned and allowed to return. Ever since i have been on my best behavior :)
Then I'd like the OP to describe the photo in detail. What I'm trying to get at is whether the photo was artful and of a "higher purpose" or what it pornographic.
If the photo was for a higher purpose then the OP's argument is much stronger.
What kind of photo would you like to see?
This is just poor advertising. Way more accurate and effective would be "NAKED Office_Chick banned".
Or perhaps, even better. "SirFelisCatus vs. The World"
I find modern society's attitude toward nudity and sex rather comical.
Why qualify the statement with "modern"? Humans have been weird as hell about this stuff for a really long time!

Not really, for example the fixation over bare female breasts is fairly recent. In pre-Victorian society the legs were considered much more taboo.

Quote of the hour!

too many idiots forget that children use this site too, agree with what you say.
I agree with Charlotte.....not only adults come here and play.....she was looking for more than playing chess by posting nude pictures...obviously.....Im sure Chess.com contacted her prior to ban her and made a request to change the picture.
Glad to hear I'm not alone on that
Just an added thought, after reading posts about "modern attitudes" and so forth... As others have pointed out, this is a chess site meant for chess. I don't think that it is a place to be pushing agendas or boundaries (unless they are about chess). There are also guidlines on many other things such as not discussing religion or politics. I personally love to discuss both, but out of respect for the site, the mods, and the users here, I follow the guidlines and keep my posts relevant (or try to). If someone finds me out of line, I will absolutely listen and change my behaviour as I understand that this is not only an all ages site, but a global site. We all share a love of chess, but also come from a range of backgrounds and cultures, so simply because one culture finds something acceptable and appropriate does not mean the same for another. This is very important to understand.
...Anyway I feel like I am preaching. Sorry about that, it's not what I meant to do.

I love chess.com. But everyone deserves a second chance. Especially when banned over such trivial matters as some offensive images. It pains me to lose a good friend. A lot of people have been disappointed. I seriously hope chess.com can be more forgiving in the future. Vary sad day for a lot of us.
