Old Chess.com version!

Looks good. Is that you?

I still use the old Chess version v2.

Reasons:

  • Better handling especially in group work and to organize team matches
  • Better picture quality (avatar)
  • Faster construction of the homepage
  • More variable personal designs (see my page), not possible with v3!

i still use the old site  and dislike the new one  its is not as easy to use

I use V2 because V3 is so slow on my machine. Minutes pass between clicking on a game and when it is loaded and I can move. I will also leave if V3 is the only way to play on Chess.com.

some features, like tactics training, don't work in my old browser. I have no time, nor I feel like to update it, so i use the old version of the site, unless I'm using phone.

V3 has several improvements over V2, to name just a few:
- Ability to save moves made on analysis board and add comments
- Ability to see who voted for what and when in vote chess"
- The new "Team Player" report (very useful for admins)

- Contemporary view of messages (all messages in a thread accessible on one page)
Etc

I know that the initial V3 (or V3 from 6-12 months ago) had some shortcomings compared to V2, but I am not aware of any such by now. If there are some, please identify here.

Most complaints on V3 relate to slowness which in turn relates to size of the page (javascript code and so).

Yeah, that seems to be one if the biggest complaints and one of the things the site is trying to rectify for those that have slowness issues, by switching to a lighter framework.

That said, the site is a little slower than v2, on the same machines and browsers for me, but the vast majority of things still load quickly; though occasionally I will get a random slowdown on a page.

I get very good peformance on an Android browser and desktop with Firefox and Chrome.

If they use time stamp and instruction count processes to debug the code, i believe they can find the problems and come to resolutions on the issues.

Immediate gratification is what most people like and want so applications with a short response time please the users and are what they will choose.

I would recommend more of a "single page" architecture for V3 so you do not have to load different URLs like in V2. That will result in V3 being faster than V2.

That being said, when I use a recent laptop and have a good internet connection, I do not find V3 slow at all.

onegr8r

It is not my net connection unless about 50 Mega Bit per second is not enough to transfer what is being transfered. It seems the lag time is in the script size and calls.

How old is your laptop and has it recently been cleaned for malware?

Why the hell would someone play an old and outdated version?

No one would.

Case closed!

You should wait for the answers to your questions: speed, logic arrangement of menus and comprehensive lay-out. As opposed with bloated CSS code, wacky arrangement of topics and Windows 8 type lay-out. Note: I use right now Windows 7, it's way faster than 8 to 10.

Considering playing chess on computers has been done since the original PC days, and todays phone processors are not able to complete as many MIPS as my old laptop, and I have no malware ... it is absurd to require current users to buy new hardware to use your new version of features that many never use.

If a 12 year old is given an used phone by a relative or friend, should they be unable to play chess on your site because they can not afford the new hardware? Think about this in the 3rd world countries, how much of their population can afford to upgrade hardware to play chess?

I am not against version 3, I am only explaining that to retain user side versions that work on the equipment the user currently owns, will retain your customers and allow more new customers to play instead of being cut off by code that takes too long to load.

A fully functioning version 3 for users who can and want to run it, and hopefully a basic version (3?) or version 2 for users who can not handle the code load. Good luck.

Good points. Sounds like a lot of major mistakes

Why can't chess.com put a message on people's Home page or something to alert everyone that there's a Site problem?

Even call it Site Maintenance and save some face...

Everything works for me too.

The problem is only impacting iOS, in particular the app, and mostly members on 9.x versions of that. So they wouldn't see the home page anyway, unless the load up a browser.
