Players disconnecting midgame need to be flagged

I don't care too much about this, anyway. Internet chess has it advantages and also some inconvenients; the best thing is you can start a new game whenever you want, and I don't think disconnections are happening so often.

How are they leaving you hanging?  If you agreed to a 5 minute game, and they leave after 2 minutes, you still would have been playing for 3 more minutes?

I usealy play 15 min matches. when they disconects after ten, its five minutes before they lose, 5 long extreamly boring minutes, and its not like you can get up and leave, since they might come back.

The solution would be simple, make three groups of players

green: disconects less then 10% of games

yellow: disconects between 10% and 30%

red: disconects more then 25% of matches

and draw opponents from the same classes. Nobody cares if you are a sore looser or just have a bad internett conection, we just dont want to sit around waiting

Its actually very simple...read a book, and glance at the screen.  Go to the bathoom...make a sandwich...listen to music...

I agree I am not a great player but you should show respect to others

good sugestions, they would indeed all fill my time.

Or chess.com could just enforce my idea and I could spend my time playing chess, after all I dont go to the libary to play chess, it would be weird to go to chess.com to read a book.

Also is there any real argument why not to impliment the new solution? why should a gay with poor conection play a gay with good conection anyway? Why cant he play another person with poor conection?

axelmuller

I tend to block people that disconnect in losing positions or that annoy me in other ways (eg. letting the clock run down in a losing position).

While i do agree with you that it would be nice if something could be done.  But how exactly do you differentiate between poor sports, and legitimate network issues?

Why would it need to distinguish between the two? As a player I dont care if you disconect because you pulled the plug, or you dont have any sportmanship. Accidents happen to all of us. You play a few more games and you are right back with a green stamp of approval.

Now if your connection problems are chronic, is it realy so bad to team you up with players who struggle with the same issues?

captainskrips

OldChessDog, I empathise with your lack of excellent internet. If however you disconnect and never return for 9 out of every 10 games you play then it would be right to judge you. If on the other hand you don't do that then what I am proposing would not affect you negatively.

captainskrips

I_Am_Second, English is not my first language but I think I have made myself quite clear.

what does hanging mean....hmm, perhaps it means sitting around for up to ten minutes on a chess website and not playing chess. I really don't see why you would need that to be clarified.

And then, instead of rebuting my proposal or making a suggestion on how to solve this issuse in an alternative way you provide ways to mask the issues instead of solving them. Do you have anything constructive to add instead of asking meaning of words and suggesting what other people should do with their time? If not, why are you here? How and what are you adding to this?

The only thing you said that is worth mentioning is about differentiating between bad players and genuine connection issues, and once again, it's a poinltess statement to make on your part. As mrhjornevik said (the only person who seems to have a brain on this thread), why does it matter? If you connection is so bad that majority of the games you start end up with you getting disconnected than you don't deserve to be playing with people who's connection is average/perfect.

My mind boggles, are you people genuienly that baffled by this? How are you not getting this?

captainskrips

Reading through this thread, not a sigle one of you has made a strong argument against what I propose. Majority of what most of you are saying is either pointless nonsense or solutions such as axelmuller's, block people. Yeah ok so you block someone and it benifits you but it still hasn't solved an issue.

Pulpofeira admits there are inconvenieces on this site, but when someone proposes a way to fix such inconveniences, all you seem to do is chat garbage. How about YOU go read a book and eat a sandwhich whilst sitting on the toilet? Thats what chess is about, right? Toilets and sandwhiches! If you have nothing constructive to say then don't say anything.

And before you start writing you replies, please avoid writing anything that would fit you into the following category:

"Another self-absobred paying member bumping his gums because they think their $14 a month payment makes their trivial opinions more important that those of the free member."

Please try not to fit yourself into that category, you look foolish.

captainskrips

And here we go, another pointless contribution from a man who has nothing worthwhile to say. Predictable.

Rednecks? New language here guys. Heard of Redlegs in American Civil War, but hey.

No doubt you saw something like this where YOU come from.

Over here we'd call him the village idiot Wink

You two can play dumb on this if you like. But, I have travelled enough to know; Rednecks populate every corner of the world in vast numbers. Even here in Thailand. (And FOR SURE in GB)

Just a wild guess; but I think you two are in denial. I think both of you totally relate with the guy in the picture.Laughing

captainskrips

Wow, there really is no point for this forum to exist. I would like to apologise, for some obscure reason I thought this forum would be different from all the others. It's not. Just another playground filled with idiots. I am pulling out of this.

mrhjornevik

I know kay you fly from thread to thread spaming the forum with nonsence.

As for you captain dont give up, soner or later we will find intelegent life on the internet :)

What we realy need is a cupple of Forum Moderators who can whip out some spanking for stupid posts

mrhjornevik

nope kay, but I should have been...

first order of business would be banning of people who post twice instead of using the edit button :)

We can write in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, German or Spanish if my misspelling bother you that much.
