a second problem with changing the rating in your game AFTER it's over is that when you look at a long term record, the average level of people you beat is lower. I played an opponenet rated higher than me, at 1575. After they failed on time in other games, they went to 1375. So whene I beat them, I get credit for beating someone 200 points lower than me, yet when we started he was 50 points higher than me.
The points ought to reflect both players rating when they start the game, THAT is the matchup for that game, what happens after that game should be for the next games, not retroactive
