As for the forums, well, the good stuff is buried under a mass of nonsense, and as you can't filter for your friends' content (would be a nice feature too), you're bound to read lots of crap before finding something sensible...
This is the biggest problem on chess.com in my opinion.
Often when a Forum topic gets interesting, it is invaded by the 'nonsense' to which you refer and the chess element being discussed gets sidelined.
I'm sure it deters many good chess players from posting and sharing their knowledge, which is detrimental to the site as a whole.
As you wrote, alois, if they are unable to get input from non-pm's, too bad for them.
I rarely cry, except after reading your posts.
