Well, sure, but isn't that kind of like saying that there's no privacy in the home because someone could look in my windows?  Or worse -- if I had my blinds drawn and was in a room without any windows that someone could break in and watch me and so my home is inherently public?

A spurious argument.  It's not the same.  If you're at home, you can look out the window and see them coming.

Well....

I certainly got much more response than I was expecting from my little rant!  After a little more investigation I discovered (much to my chagrin) that I am just a naive noob who knows sh*t about anything related to privacy.  Thanks to all who have set me straight (seriously), and a very special thanks to "Ian 1984". You should take that act on the road...

I'd like an option to not appear on the interactive map. I know we've done this one a few times before, but still.

tunatin, you sent me a message asking about this, but I'm unable to respond to you -- fittingly, because of your privacy settings.

To answer your question, you do appear to be in Uraguay on the interactive map.

Whoa!!  Interactive map?  Just how much detail is seen by premium members using that feature?

If they look up my handle, does Google let them see my tanlines when I'm out sunbathing?  Or, merely how many cars I have in my driveway?

sftac, for what it's worth, I'm unable to tell whether that is a Coke or a Pepsi in your hand.

Phew!  Thanks for that.

If you want a real eye-opener, install noscript on your Firefox browser. You won't believe how much garbage is running in the background (and spying on you or who knows what else) when you navigate the web. Be sure to turn on the audible setting.

Yep, chess.com actually has very few other sites trying to link into their main page. I count about six that I don't allow. Other sites may have fifteen or twenty additional sites that load into your PC when you visit them. Most are advertising or tracking sites. Who knows what some of the others are doing, especially if you allow them to run active-x or even java scripts.

Not at all TG, just a fellow Canuck being myself.  Oh damn, I've let my privacy show!
BTW, I hope Calgary does not follow Toronto in banning shark fin soup...best ever is in Calgary! (This coming from someone who lived in Edmonton for many years!)

Is that the Stephen Wright who asked "Why do we drive on the parkways and park on the driveways?"

The same Stephen Wright who said "I spilled spot remover on my dog, now I can't find him!"

The very same Stephen Wright who said " I went to the store and bought a garbage can. They put it in a plastic bag and gave it to me. I went home, took the garbage can out of the bag and put the bag in the garbage can.  Hmmmmm?"

That guy?

Hello,

I was very disheartened to discover that my privacy has been compromised by this site.

The other evening I Googled my name, just for fun, and I was very surprised to see my name, my online name, my address, my stats, my date of birth etc, and other information on this site.

This is a gross breach of privacy, and I would like someone to explain how this is possible.

I am very seriously pissed about this, and want answers.

 haha! who googles themselves...?

Avatar of Cystem_Phailure

It doesn't do me much good to google my name.  Wikipedia has entries for 29 different people with my name, and there are a zillion others out there.

Avatar of TheGrobe

I have the same name as someone notable enough, and have almost no web presense using my real name anyway, that I'm effectively impossible to find.

Avatar of bigpoison

I don't know anybody else named TheGrobe.

I think it's a canuck thing.

Avatar of corrijean

I know a person named Michael Jackson. He says it isn't much fun to have such a name.
