"Best win" section on profile

A 2600 player just timed out against me without making a single move, and that game is now listed as my "best."  Needless to say, there are several wins I'm more proud about.

What would people think of adding an option to change what "best win" we have listed?

This has been brought up before.

I'd like to choose my best game.

SimSteve

just had the same thing happen to me with a 2010 player he timed out twice in a tournament with out a move. I just feel cheap as that is my best win and all I had to do it wait 48hours for him to time out.

I don't know about including a best win option but I would prefer that games where the opponent times out do not count. Even if there needs to be at least 5 moves before it is considered a best win.

In your Online Chess settings you can change the auto win option to where you can deicide whether you want to claim a win on time or not.

I don't think the issue is with claiming the win so much as having a time out as your best win.

But if your opponent has no intention of returning to the site to finish the game this only defers the problem.

In fairness, my best win is my best win, mating a player some 400 + points above me, at the time.

I can see people's points here though. Maybe a best win that you enjoyed might be listed as a 'Favourite win'?

TheGrobe

No, I think that users should be given the option of suppressing a game in which their opponent timed out from their best-win stat.

If you want to display a favourite game you can already do this on your profile by inserting the game itself.  The best-win stat should be relatively consistent from user to user, but it would be good to at least provide users with this level of control over a potentially misleading result.

@thegrobe, good point

TheGrobe, that sounds like a vast improvement.  I wish I could switch out my second-best game as well (my opponent simply left a rook en prise; my third-best involved much stronger opposition), but it seems reasonable to restrict switching to time-outs for the sake of consistency.

I played a two game simul against a guy about two weeks ago and he only made a few moves in each game(3 days/move) and he timed out on both games, helping me start a little streak to hit 1520. I checked his stats recently and he timed out in several tourney matches while not making a single move and my best win is listed against him. A win is a win yes, but not like that

Dubious best wins, biggest upsets  and innacurate quotation of ratings  in the lost/won column simply reflect computerised programme limitations. When or if priority work load permits they will be modified I'm sure, as will the rather more annoying and grossly unfair problem of lazy/careless organisers entering "newbie 1200s" who frequently are far more experienced  than their hapless opponents in the lower echelons of their games My current games in Bulgaria V Scotland should prove an eye- opener to anyone caring enough to look at resulting ratings in tail of game list Please be assured I am not suggesting it was done in anything other than over-sight but there were at least 3 "newbie1200s" accepted  in opposing team. Both teams organisers need to take notice, as well as the site rule designers,of the basically bogus nature of any claim to fair competion . Would a result be open to appeal if it turned on skilled newby entrants ? Perhaps we shall see some day.

Though some will be reluctant to give up their best win - however obtained.
