Setting up thematic daily tournaments

Sort:

There are 4 categories of set-up that can be chosen in the advanced settings of creating a daily tournament:

#1 Standard position, #2 Select a book opening from a large but still limited descriptive list. #3 960, #4 Custom FEN

The fourth, FEN, is an improvement in v3, because v2 did not have that one. Still, it would be nice to also be able to enter a specific opening sequence by PGN. One reason is that custom FEN games can't be included in a player's Explorer set. Another reason is that it would be easier for people creating tournaments who are not familiar and fluent with FEN.

For example, 1. e4 e5 is not one of the pre-selected 'book openings' that can be chosen. Just 1. e4 (King pawn opening) is, and so is the King's Gambit (1.e4 e5 2. f4...)and 1. e4 c5 (Sicilian defense) is also, but not specifically double king pawn.  The FEN for that, rnbqkbnr/pppp1ppp/8/4p3/4P3/8/PPPP1PPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 2, will produce the desired position, and the game will be stored in a player's archive when the game is done, but it won't show up in their history when using the Explorer tool.

PGN starting from the standard position could make it possible to include those games in a player's opening data, whether it is set up by typing "1. e4 e5" or maybe even by moving pieces from the standard starting position on a set-up board.

To create a live tournament, you must be a club coordinator or admin.
