If a few trivial statistics were made available, that might lead to interesting discussion in the forums. I, for one, am not looking for deep, business-oriented figures - which are entirely in Erik's domain and are none of the general membership's business, surely.
Site Statistics: Extra Metrics

View Players (from My Online Chess)
Also of potential interest...
Behavioural stats: e.g.
No. of members blocked
Maximum no. of blocks against any one member (but not who it is! - something has to be left to the imagination)

What I would like to see is the actual nos of active member on the website. yeah there is 800,000 have joined up but I believe there are about 50,000+ (just guessing) active members, say something like active for more than 3 months or more.

Presumably
Today's Rank: | #19123 of 80,861 (76.3%) |
gives us some clue. This is for standard chess: nearly 81,000 'active members'. Chess960 has only about 6,000.

I've quoted this before, somewhere, I think:
"Statistics are like a bikini, what they reveal is interesting, what they conceal is vital"

Over half of them are guys: how come they're wearing bikinis?

Men do wear bikinis such as the speedo, and they are not gender related.
It all depends on the opening one has to wear a light swimwear, you naturally need to have the body shape that will accentuate your assets.
Lol.
As for the missing 720 000, I imagine if you searched for them about 80% would be completely inactive, many would simply use the tools such as Chess Mentor avaliable here and some would be found in other places...

Personal Progress Stats:
Rating is about the only statistic that is shown historically. ( 7 Days | 30 Days | 60 Days | 90 Days | 1 Year | All Time )
Another one that could be of particular interest is: %Won - as an indicator of whether one was improving or not.
(There's a lot of oddly named openings in chess - but curiously, no Bikini Opening.)

(Re)inspired by a recent thread:
Average Timout Protection Uses per Game:

A resignation to loss ratio would also be useful.
It would allow us to point to that metric as an indicator that could have been used to proactively avoid an opponent whenever someone retroactively complains about an opponent who refused to resign when they felt it was appropriate.

Yes, potentially useful.
Were we once able to see Amount of Vacation Remaining for other members - or did I just imagine it?

I know the request has been made a number of times by a number of people, but I don't recall that information every being available unless one of your opponents is actually on vacation.

A resignation to loss ratio would also be useful.

I wonder if these ideas Resigned Game Stats and Essential Chess Type (voluntary code) still have legs?

I had always thought that the term bikini was reserved for
a women's swimsuit with two parts, one covering the breasts, the other the groin(and optionally the buttocks), leaving an uncovered area between the two (optionally in the case of theTankini). It is often worn in hot weather or while swimming. The shapes of both parts of a bikini resemble women's underwear, and the lower part can range from revealing thong or g-string to briefs and modest square-cut shorts
yet it seems that paul211's French ancestry has provided him with a unique insight, since
Merriam–Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (11th edition) describes the bikini as "a woman's scanty two-piece bathing suit", "a man's brief swimsuit" and "a man's or woman's low-cut briefs".
Perhaps, using the term statistics in this topic's title was an ambiguous choice.
Erik revealed the browser usage stats for chess.com some time back http://www.chess.com/forum/view/community/chesscom-browser-statistics
Certain other site statistics (excluding business sensitive ones!) might be of general interest, if released periodically, covering a timeframe of say a month. e.g.
%Rated games %Unrated games %Takeback games
#Checkmates #Draws #Resignations #Timeouts
Tactics Trainer usage Chess Mentor usage Chess Workout usage
An additional benefit of this (without trying to make extra work for Erik & team) is that it would remind/inform us about the extensive site facilities.
Any other stats. of interest?
