Ok, I'm sorry. That's a good source. I trust Jac1yn.
THE MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS BAN RULE

Yeah, this is not correct, sometimes someone can get his account closed onky because the staff THINK that this person has another account, but they certainly need proves!
First of all, read the terms of service. The site can ban anyone for any reason.
Second, trolls are pretty easy to spot, and after a while, as they return, they are walking around with bullseyes on their foreheads.

I'd ban even who makes comments out of topic.

I propose we replace it with a ban on using all caps in thread titles.
"Chess.com's membership drops to 3 overnight"

11+ million members, but never more than 50k at the same time...
Exactly... I would venture to say.. most of that 11 million are inactive accounts. muliple accounts etc. Saying there are "11 million members just looks better"
Entirely possible not everyone is awake all at the same time. And not everyone logs on at the same time....

There are only a million or so active accounts. Active means someone who logged in in the last month and played a game or posted in the forums.

11 million / 2 = 5.5 million in daylight
.5 million = fake and dead.
Suppose only a quarter play LIVE chess = 5M/4 =1.25 M
Number of awake hrs: 6 am to 10 pm.~ 16 hrs
1 hr log time per person: 1/16 * 5M = 78,000
I dunno. That's as close as I can get.

You should ban the guys who haven't been active for more than 6 months (or first, send them a email warning) and seem linked to another user.

Perhaps but very unlikely, If you notice how many are on at any given time, ive never seen it exceed 40-50,000

I agree.. trim the fat so to speak. if non paying members havent been on wipe out the account entirely rather then just close it keeping it accessible
If there's 11 million on this site I wouldn't have to wait as long to get games. Sometimes I put out challenges for standard and wait forever just to play. Maybe there just isn't that many 1800 or higher players on here because it seems the higher I challenge the longer the wait.

It can also depend on your prposed time controls. Some, especially ones with increments, are faster.
Also, removing 'deadbeat' accounts would not affect the matching speed.

Lemme calculate.
11 million members. 3-4 million closed accounts. 1-2 million closed for cheating and insulting stuff.
That makes it 6 million members. 1 million are not active.
So there are 5 million active people on this site.
2 million are sleeping/resting at a time. A million don't log in every single day.
A normal person spends 1 hour here.
They are awake for ~16 hours. That makes it 6% of their daytime.
3,000,000 × 6 ÷ 100 = 30,000 × 6 = 180,000
About a quarter of people play live chess.
That makes it 180k/4
= 45,000 are playing live chess at a time.
About 1-2 million are online at a time!
Yay!

[Dot bumps are on my short list of want-to-be-bannable offenses. Until then, Good day, madam! Mod.]

That "Dot bump" as you call it, was me repeating what i wrote a few weeks ago and realizing it and erasing it at 3am. I fail to see how "Dot bumps" as you put it, are offensive. I simply erased rather then deleted for no reason other then it was late, i was tired and and i was going to replace it with somethng else, but had nothing else to add so i didnt. The period was still in the box. So i left it as it was. I guess its a good thing you dont make the rules in here. Biting people's heads off for absolutely no reason is not cool.
[I was, of course, jesting. Mod.]
im not sure i believe you. show the jester...

Gunsmoke was classic, they dont make anything for TV that comes close to the shows back then. Ive been you tubing Mr.Ed for my twins lately. They love it and cant get enough of it.
Thanks for asking. I talked with Matt and Jaclyn. You can contact the staff yourself, Ronald.

Hi Everyone; having this discussion with Chess.com staff I found out. REALLY? Who'd you talk to? Without any proof that this thread is true......I suggest we shut off the lights, go out the back door, and all go home
