the bunny will soon be writing to y'all for thread support compensation.  since @importantheart is no longer reachable on here, her next of kin @bishoboo becomes liable.

remember, threads need love too.

So here's a question.  If you're the 2nd poster and the op blocks you before he deletes his op and you inherit the thread,  are you blocked from your own thread?

The bunny can still post on threads inherited from @imbacon who has recently blocked him again but only after passing on the threads.

It's not that complicated.

Before you enter a forum thread, it says who it's made by. For example "I hate everything" BY <Insert Username here>. Normally the original poster obviously is the creator of the thread, but if they delete their original post, the second post, IF it belongs to someone else, will become the original post, hence next time you check that same posts creator it will say "I hate everything" BY <Insert different username here>. So, with the mechanics and UI of chess.com, if someone who created a thread, blocked u after u made the 2nd post, then deletes their original post, u inherit the ownership, hence u can comment again, as u can't be blocked from posting on ur own forum.

Have you verified this scenario?   Or are you  claiming to know the exact implementation?

Avatar of autobunny

Let's do it 😀

You create a thread "the bunny sucks eggs"

There u go. Comment on it, then I'll block u and delete my post. See if u can comment again on it.

Commented.   Now for the block.  Please let me verify the block before you delete your op

Ok I blocked u and deleted my post.

Didn't see that comment by u to wait for the delete first, but I definitely blocked u then deleted my post.

Works as you said.   The side effect was that the URL changed to

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/off-topic/off-topic-the-bunny-sucks-eggs-just-a-test

The topic was prefixed with the forum category

Wonder if the new op is deleted and @mbereobong inherits it, will there be a double prefix?

The bunny has more questions as usual.  A restless mind if any at all.

Now the thread doesn’t open!?

Avatar of autobunny

Just got answered with test #2.  The topic name keeps getting prefixed with the forum category for every op deletion or is it op change.

Hmm more questions...

Also since you are op and 2nd poster could you delete your op,  so you are still the owner? Want to see if the URL changes again.

The owner will consistently be the oldest post on the forum. So even if the original poster deletes theirs, the second poster deletes theirs, and the third poster deletes theirs, the 4th oldest comment will become the original post and the person who posted the 4th comment becomes the creator of the thread.

But this is getting a bit ridiculous of a discussion now.

The point was about the URL change.

Avatar of autobunny

@ghost_of_pushwood has just been unmuted and now that the page numbers have changed, the bunny can't access the last page.  hence this post, to fix that.

Why does the URL matter? the title in the URL still looks the same to me.

please read & observe carefully

an "off-topic" is added to the URL every time i get that but the same link still works to get to the original post no?

yes.  but anyone using the old url in a link with not find the topic.  there must also be a limit to topic name length, so they can't keep prefixing forever.  also it is not clear whether the deletion of the op or change of owner triggers this prefixing.

This thread is dated 2018, it is now 2020. Why has this not been fixed yet? How much money do we have to pay the staff to fix it?
