I kinda get pissed off when I try to continue games and some amature has decided I didn't play to their level and puts a 5 minute hold on my games if I run out of time thinking of the best response, I should not be penalized for my next games. Losing on time is not the end of the world.
Time runs out while making a move who says when you are stalling or thinking if
I assume that you are referring to live chess. If you wait 30 seconds before making your first move, the server will abort the game because you are being too slow. Also, on the bottom of the board there is a game timer. This is the amount of time you have for the whole game. Every time it is your turn, it counts down until you make a move. If you run out of time, you lose. When you create/accept games, you can set/see the time limits for the game. Oh and, how do people "put five minute holds" on your games? Never seen it happen to me. Can't figure out how to do it. Hope this helps.
EDIT: okay now I understand completely. If you let the game timer run completely down at least once, the server may decide that you did it on purpose to avoid losing by checkmate. Then it will put a hold on your games.
