Why can not the new Chess.com version v3 do this!

I speculate high speed data comes at premium I cannot afford. Downloading the ap "chess" or "classic chess" maybe shifts the load. My conditional moves are quite hampered where one must log in.

The thread reports the following items were V3 could be enhanced to match V2:

1. Notes Texts are not saved if you leave page and go back.
2. V2 has auto complete (when you write "We ...." it becomes "Welcome to the group ♘ Black Beauty ♘.
Thank you for joining!")
3. It takes one more click to see the club's newest members. In V2,
you can see at aglance which members are online and new.
4. It takes one more click to see team match participants
5. V3 is slower. This is felt on a slower laptop or on a slow connection.
However, V3 has the potential to be faster if it evolves a "single page" archicture.
6. Notes: "try to add text in the beginning you can't do that cause it jumps in the middle again,".
I could not reproduce this problem. I suggest that you file a defect with chess.com and provide information about your OS and browser.
7. The result looks better when you copy a list of matches into a message in V2 versus v3.

In many areas, V3 is better than V2. To name a few:

1. You can save moves and comments when you use the analysis board.
2. Messages are organized in threads. It is easier to find old messages.
3. In vote chess, you can see who voted for what and when.
4. Home page can be customized via settings.
5. When you copy a text which is too long for a note, it get truncated on the screen so you can see the result before you post.

6. V3 has a new "Top Players" page.
7. Admins can see closed accounts for a group and remove same.

I am sure there are many more such improvements. Note also: many improvements to V3 has been made based on member's feedback and constructive feedback.

Also in V2 you can see the views of the forums of the team at the end of your team's homepage below,   but in V3 there are no forum views at all like nobody cares

i miss that too, even though iam a supporter of the V3 edition. happy.png

I think V3 major problem is note text save is not there,I have seen many people complaint about this issue. If this gets solved many will switch to v3 who are't switching it to v3 because of this reason.

Overall wise V3 is far better than v2

It would be the end of decent online chess if ever Version 2 disappears, unless another site wants 5/6 million players, and starts one up

Which V2 features would V3 need to implement to satisfy the die hard V2 supporters?

V3 is very slow too and if you don't believe how slow it is take a look what happenned in one of my forums

i was working in v2 as always editing some composed problems, everything was right looking the page in V2

https://www.chess.com/groups/forumview/composed-problems?page=2

but when you look at the page using V3 surprise

I am still waiting for 5 composed problems to upload even after so many months

i remember it was wintertime... may be i have to wait until next Summer cause I don't have the courage to edit them all over again using V3, it took me a lot of time to write them in V2 where they have no problem at all

https://www.chess.com/groups/forumview/composed-problems?page=2

P.S. all these 5 composed problems will be lost if V2 will be gone

The problem with the puzzles that display OK in V2 and show blank chessboard in V3 is that you have used incorrect FEN string. For example, in post #29 at the bottom of page 2, the FEN is:

"8/7P/3P1b2/3B1P2/8/4B1RK/4N1rp/5b1k w - - 0 "

The above is missing the full move number. The correct FEN is:

"8/7P/3P1b2/3B1P2/8/4B1RK/4N1rp/5b1k w - - 0 1"

As it turns out, the puzzle editor in V2 is buggy, and accepts invalid FEN, which is then not rendered correctly in V3.

Buggy editor caused issues when people tried to set up custom games, and was fixed, but only in V3. In particular, pasting incomplete FEN appends the missing move counter automatically, hence people who switched to V3 are not subject to surprises that you have encountered.

Curiously, if the FEN is too short but does not have the trailing space:

"8/7P/3P1b2/3B1P2/8/4B1RK/4N1rp/5b1k w - - 0"

it displays correctly in either V2 or V3.

Anyway, I have submitted a bug report on the rendering problem (and got a response from staff within an hour). While formally this can be classified as a user error (pasting bad data), such trivial mistakes should be easily corrected.

If you don't want to wait for the fix, you can easily correct them yourself in V2 as well, and they will display just fine in V3. Here are the corrected FENs (in your posts, the final "1" was missing) and solutions for the four puzzles that display incorrectly, in the top-to-bottom sequence.

[FEN "7Q/2p5/1P1N3R/3k4/8/2K5/8/8 w - - 0 1"]
1.Qe8 cxd6 2.Rh5#

[FEN "8/8/1p2rNQ1/1P6/KPk2P2/2Pp4/3P4/8 w - - 0 1"]
1.Nd5 Rxg6 2.Ne3#

[FEN "4r2k/pppb2pp/8/3Q2N1/1P1P1P2/P5K1/1B3PPP/n2q4 w - - 0 1"]
1.Nf7+ Kg8 2.Nh6+ Kh8 3.Qg8+ Rxg8 4.Nf7#

[FEN "8/7P/3P1b2/3B1P2/8/4B1RK/4N1rp/5b1k w - - 0 1"]
1.h8=B $3 Bxh8 2.Rg7

That last one seems to be missing some moves, btw.

To give you an example try to copy the whole following comment below (expert from my poetry forum) in one of your personal forums and then try  process it by yourself, try to add one line as a title over the video or 2 lines at the end of the comment, try to add one picture or put the video between the text or try to delete the last video or the photo  etc,

You will find out that you cannot do anything

All of the above and then some were done here:

https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/copied-post

Added a line over a video, replaced video, deleted image, added another image, added two lines at the end.

No tricks used -- just plain V3 editor.

fantastic

It is amazing that you have noticed that detail in the missing number on FEN string

Since it was my mistake I'll try to re-edit them in the future using the FENs  you have given me

Thank you very much for your concern and effective effort

You're welcome! It was rather easy; the FEN is visible in the source of the page, and the missing counter was immediately visible. The fact that it was the trailing space before the quote mark that killed the rendering was a bit of head scratch. I am glad that I could help.

There is an ever faster way to fix the FEN problem. Alas, I discovered it only a bit later.

All you need to do is to switch to V3, edit the post, open the chessboard editor on the puzzle that does not display properly, save the puzzle, and save the post. This happens because the V3 editor fixes the bad FEN automatically.

Here's a quick screenshot of what to do, in three easy steps...

The main fault of version 3 is the very basic one that the actual chess interface is a painful eyestrain, especially in tournaments.

Have you tried any of the other themes that change the look of the interface?

You could also try Focus mode during tournaments, and that might help too.
