Acceleration for Knock-Out tournaments

Watching those many current tournaments for a while, I observed very early a somewhat unsatisfactory situation in many Knock-Out tournaments. I'm quite sure that the following proposal has already been posted by others, but I couldn't find any relating forum topic at the moment...

Many people are discontented about the fact that a new round only starts if all games of the current round have been finished. I think, it should be technically possible to let a new round start as soon as there are no more unfinished games, which could affect the standings (relevant for advancement to the next round) in any way.

So in my opinion the main problem with waiting times in Knock-Out tournaments is not the "vacation topic" - since many of the "vacation games" are games that do not affect advancement to the next round, and I'm really confident about shortening of terms with that enhancement.

I've made a proposal for an easy to implement procedure to shorten lengthy tournament rounds with only "irrelevant for next round"-games left (may be the programmers could take a look at it...)  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/tournaments/how-to-speed-up-tournaments---help?page=3

I will now try to clarify the advantages of the above proposal on the basis of the current situation of the 6th Chess.com Quick Knock-Outs (1801-2000) tournament http://www.chess.com/tournament/6th-chesscom-quick-knockouts-1801-2000, where at present 23 games are still open in the first round. There are 34 groups in this tournament's first round, 25 of them are "fixed" in the current sense that all group games have been finished. If one adopts the procedure outlined in  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/tournaments/how-to-speed-up-tournaments---help?page=3 , further 5 groups could be "fixed" in the sense that in these groups the 8 remaining games will have no influence on the next round. So at the moment we would have to wait for 15 games (instead of 23) to be finished before the next round could start. Note that at present about one third of all remaining games is "irrelevant for the next round". This fraction will (by statistical rules) grow with time as more and more games will finish. Though in some cases of course we will still have to wait until the last game of a round is finished if this last games happens to be "relevant". But this should happen only in far less than 50 percent of all tournament rounds.

Now, the day has come (as expected) where there are still 7 games open in round 1 of this tournament, but in principle the next round could be started, because all conditions I posed above are fullfilled. Let's see how many days the 2nd round could have been started earlier with the proposed new reglement...

I do not predicate that an accelaration can be achieved in any cases. It basically depends on whether the last game of a round (which in most cases "suffers" from vacation) is a decisive one or not. A crude consideration would guess that the probability is slightly more than about 1 per 3 (or 33%) that it is a decisive one. So in about 50 to 70 % of all cases an acceleration could be achieved. How great this acceleration could be is another discussion point. It could range from 1 day to about 30 days or even more. I guess the average acceleration would be about 5 to 10 days in about 50 to 70 % of all tournament rounds (at least for the first rounds).

Bravo! I agree with You! You should make a proposal to the chess.com stuff! Or if You did that what was the answer?! I was away like for 3 weeks and the 2nd round still is not finished, but really there is no games which could affect the result (advancing in the group).

Thank you for your agreement, fedja7. I think, the "stuff" is thinking about the proposal and I'm quite sure, they will do their best to improve the situation. -

By the way, the second round of the 6th Chess.com Quick Knock-Outs (1801-2000) has just started with an (avoidable) delay of 30 days (as you know of course).
