I've only played in 16 tournaments in my lifetime..
My USCF rating is 1460 and my best performance would be at the Central Jersey Chess Tournament, where I played in the 900+ section (I know, it was pretty low)
My rating was 1071 and I scored a 3.5/4 beating a 1350 and a 1200 finishing in first place...
my rating SOARED 164 points and I was rated 1200 something after that!
My very first tournament, as a young teen, back in 1978 or so, I had absolutely no idea back then if I was the best chessplayer in the world, or the worst, because I had never played anyone besides my dad.
I came in as an unrated, and won the E, D, and C sections. I still have the trophy. Considering my very limited experience, it was a good start.

My very First tournament which was an under 13 FIIDE rated championship last year.I had been attending classes for 2 or 3 months and i knew only one opening,which was the sicillian pelikan and e4.I had a game against a rated guy the very first round and i was scared and sure that i was gonna lose but he played the dragon and i managed to beat him with some strange system as white!That raised my confidence and i scored 7 out of 10 and got 12th place or and a rating of 1572!I was really happy as it was my first tournament and i had been to coaching for only 2 0r 3 months!
