Can't join the official chess.com tournament

"You must have a timeout ratio lower than 10% to play in this tournament."

What kind of ridiculous restriction is this?  There is no possible way I could finish enough correspondence games by Dec 1 to meet this requirement..  so I'm just not allowed to compete?  How does that make any sense at all?  I lost internet access for a couple days and timeouted 3 games, out of my total 7 I've finished so far since I joined the site a couple months ago.  I can't believe that a tournament for <1200 players would make things so difficult for a beginner to participate.

It is not ridiculous but a very good restriction.  In your case it's just too bad but there are some people here who timeout frequently.  BTW, do you know that an official chess.com tourney can last years?  I am playing in one which has been on for 2 years.  Do you have time for that or will you like most others timeout after few months?

This rule is in place because some players timeout a bunch of games on purpose to tank their ratings so they can enter tournaments at a lower rating. A few higher rated players seem to get a kick out of entering low rated contests and destroying the competition. Hence this rule.....
